Not a big poster, more of a lurker/learner. But I just wanted to post quickly about a recent experience with Morrells in NYC. In January I purchased several bottles of futures of what now is an almost impossible to find brand, and if found the price is 5x++ of what it was a year ago. Their container arrived several weeks ago, but I had still not received notification of shipment. Of course, I began expecting the worse.
Yesterday, they advised me that the importer had left the items off this container. Before my blood pressure started to increase they advised me that they would swap out these village level bottles for 1’er level bottles at zero additional charge.
Kudos to Morrells for not only doing the right thing, but taking what I imagine is a large loss to satisfy a customer.
Glad they were something other than extraordinarily awful for someone, for me it was like pulling teeth slowly over a several month period getting them to refund a prearrival order of '15 Gerard Mugneret wines that never showed up that nobody there would admit would never get fulfilled. In 40 years of collecting I’ve had very few bad experiences ordering wine but this was one of the few.
I work at Morrell. Based on the 3 pallets of pre-arrival I saw arrive last week and the constant pre-arrival orders I’m handling, they appear to be on top of the pre-arrival game. They’ve always got pre-arrival arriving… weekly. The place is super well-kept (organized, clean).
Friendly reminder that they’re also Vintage Wine Warehouse. I can confirm the facility stays 55F and is very secure. They’ve got a monster back-up generator that could power a small town, so no worries about power outages even if they last a week. They use a 3rd party same-day service for pick-ups around NYC for a reasonable rate, too. They’ve got off-site in Delaware, too, if you want to pay less and forget about your cases for a decade or two.
