Fans of Vincent Wine Company wines know that we use the term “Tardive” (or late) on special wines held longer on lees in barrel and bottled later than regular cuvées of the same wine. It’s sorta how we say “reserve.” These are not late picked wines, but late bottled for additional development and complexity.

The 2022 Chardonnay WV “Berserker Tardive” comes from two neutral French oak barrels of 108 clone Chardonnay from 1980s own rooted vines at Dion Vineyard in the Laurelwood District of the Willamette Valley. We aged the wine a full 21 months on lees, then bottled unfiltered as we do with everything we make. Harvested at 20.5 brix. The wine shows flinty, lemon curd and mineral scents, with salty, apple and leesy earthy flavors, crisp and precise but so fine, it’s simply a berserk deal. Drink now or hold over 5+ years, though at this price make it your house white. Fans of Chablis, check this out.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Ribbon Ridge “Berserker Tardive” was also 21 months in barrel on lees, equal parts Pommard and Wadensvil from South Face Vineyard and originally slated to be a single vineyard offering from that site. However we made the decision to not continue with the vineyard after 2023 - just too many sites in our portfolio - and we had the inspiration to make a Berserker exclusive instead. South Face is to the west of and above Domaine Divio, with a view over to our longtime site Armstrong Vineyard. Marine soils, ten year old vines, harvested in early October, average 22 brix, fermented naturally in open top macro bins. Barreled in neutral French oak for 21 months, bottled unfiltered. Medium dark ruby, earthy floral black cherry aromas, like a blend of Fleurie and Beaune with a decidedly old world streak. Chalky black cherry, bitter chocolate and floral flavors, some definite earthy leather notes, suave gentle tannin. This isn’t simple fruity Pinot, it’s just priced that way. Drink all spring and summer at BBQs, lose some in the cellar for 5-10 years, you won’t be disappointed.

Offer 2 - Old school Fritzsche Napa Cabernet, $369 six pack, delivered.
Did you know we started making old school Napa Cab in 2022, with an absolutely top notch viticulture partner we’re not going to name drop, but yes they’re selling here today as well. They’re all about farming grapes to harvest at moderate brix, good acidity and ripe flavors, to make contemporary wines that show the heritage of the unique Napa Valley. Glossy oak and prune soup these wines are NOT. Fresh, ageworthy and simply delicious wines to enjoy now or over 10+ years - yes! We’ve named our wines Fritzsche (FRITCH-ee) to honor the memorable Fritzsche Family Reunion in the Bay Area in 1975, which included a wine tasting day in Napa Valley. I was just a little kid who got dragged along, but I remembered years later how good the wineries smelled. Was that the day I became a wine geek? Perhaps. Then old family photos of the day trip surfaced during the Covid quarantine, provoking the inspiration to make some old school Napa wine of our own, and now we have some to offer you here.

Our flagship wine is the 2022 Fritzsche Cabernet Sauvignon Bengier Vineyard, three barrels selected from what we produced from our rows in this fantastic Oak Knoll District site. Formerly known as Vare Vineyard, Bengier is at the base of Mt. Veeder and was planted back in the 1990s. Harvested in late September 2022 at 22.5 brix, the final wine is an even 13% alcohol. One of three barrels was new, the other two were neutral French oak. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, again as with everything we do. Expect cool cassis and dark fruit notes, subtle oak influence and fine tannin. The wine reminds us of Napa wines from decades ago, with a grace, elegance and subtle power that we love in any fine wine.

Our second wine is the 2022 Fritzsche Cabernet Sauvignon Family Reunion, a blend of a bit of Bengier and all of what we produced from York Vineyard in Rutherford, right on the valley floor. Hallowed ground! Final alcohol here is a modest 12.6% with a medium body and less tannin compared to the Bengier. All neutral oak here, one Berserker posted last fall on this wine saying it reminded him of 1970s wines from Shafer, among others. That’s high praise. You be the judge!

Note: because we bring the fruit to Oregon to make these wines, we can only put “California” on the label. But these are 100% from Napa Valley fruit and taste like it.

Offer 3 - 2022 Pinot Noir/Chardonnay six pack, $269 delivered.
Vincent Wine Company began in 2009 producing Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, adding Chardonnay in 2012. Our winery is in Amity, right in the heart of the Eola Hills, and though we don’t own our own vines (yet!), we’ve long sourced from some of the top vineyards in the valley. Here’s a chance to get a six pack of our top three wines from the 2022 vintage, all from vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA.

2022 Chardonnay Royer Vineyard
Mark and June Royer’s vineyard began production in 2019 and immediately showed its top tier quality. Red volcanic soils high on the windy west side of the Eola Hills, the wine shows crushed seashell and crystalline lemon qualities. Stellar Chardonnay.

2022 Pinot Noir Zenith Vineyard
Originally planted as O’Connor Vineyard in the 1980s, Zenith is in the heart of the Eola Hills below Bethel Heights and Temperance Hill. Marine soils, darker fruit tones and fine cashmere tannin, fabulous for cellaring though drinking well young.

2022 Pinot Noir Temperance Hill Vineyard
High elevations, red volcanic soils, the core of this cuvee is 1983 own-rooted Wadensvil from the first plantings at this venerable site. Floral, red fruit and subtle Doug fir tip and herb notes, distinctive Pinot Noir that screams Eola.

Offer 4 - 2023 Gamay six pack, $149, combine with any other offer for free shipping
We’ve made Gamay since 2015, as a reward in the year we finally we able to go full time into our winery business. Gamay is a later ripening grape, so making it in the day job years seemed like more risk for getting fired (lol). Our Gamay comes mostly from 1980s roots, Riesling that was field grafted in the last decade to true Gamay Noir. We ferment it naturally with a large portion of whole clusters, in traditional open top fermenters and then age for 10 months in neutral French oak. Floral, gamy and piquant red fruits, peppery spice, this isn’t Beaujolais but might be its cousin, fun but also serious Gamay.

Offer 5 - 2023 Pinot Blanc six pack, $149, combine with any other offer for free shipping
Since 2018 we’ve leased the sole plot of Pinot Blanc at Zenith Vineyard in the Eola Hills, just .63 acres of a true Colmar clone planted in the mid 1990s. We’re inspired by the small tradition of Pinot Blanc in Burgundy, so this is fermented naturally in neutral French oak, on lees for 10 months and bottled unfiltered as with all our wines. Laser focused, often people ask - stainless steel? No. All barrel but old wood, usually 10-15 year casks. Keeping the wine on lees keeps it so fresh and pristine. No residual sugar, just rounded from aging and yet all orchard fruit and mineral, perfect with cheese and seafood.

It this that valley fruit I’ve heard so much about?

Yes in fact it is. None of that mountain garbage, it’s Napa VALLEY not Napa Hills. :kissing_heart: :innocent:

These cabs are insane. If I must compare I am going to something like Corison in their elegance yet sneaky power and long crazy good finish. Top work Vincent.

Oh and yeah those Chards are pretty damn good as well!!!

He’s gonna give me a hard time for posting this, but I really was skeptical when he first told me about the hair-brained scheme to make Napa wine in Oregon…and I have been proven wrong. The Cabs are really lovely, elegant bottles that are for anyone who thinks California doesn’t make 'em like they used to. Great vineyard sources, hands-off winemaking, the right amount of concentration.

And yeah, sure, he’s pretty damn good at making Chardonnay/Pinot/Gamay/etc. as well. Almost as good at making wine as he is driving a forklift in gravel.

I was determined to stand strong against temptation but you rusted away my iron will. Sent an email for a half case

Great deal on great wines.
Sent an order to send a case to this place (anyone remember Sadat X and True Wine Connoisseurs - they even had Adam Lee on an episode).

Vincent - Thanks for participating in BD 16!

Nice Sadat X reference! Definitely sending a case to your place.

One of my favorite producers! If anyone can pull off elegant Napa Cab in Oregon, Vincent will be the one!

How does the 2022 Berserker Tardive Pinot compare to the regular 2019 Ribbon Ridge?

Good question! I haven’t had the '19 RR in a while but I think the '22 RR Berserker Tardive shows more depth and complexity. The '19 was bottled younger and the summer was pretty mild by current standards. '22 was a warmer summer but we started very late, so we picked in early October, a couple weeks later than 2019. So it shows the good side of a warm year, heat didn’t push the vintage to the early side, rather it just gave nice ripeness but hardly too much. Again, average brix for the '22 was around 22.5 brix, so about 12.9% alcohol I’d expect (can’t recall offhand!). Additionally, the '22 is essentially a single vineyard wine from South Face Vineyard, the two barrels we original selected for vineyard designation and then decided to not proceed with. So it has a slightly deeper color than I remember from '19, and has more bass notes. The '22 is very floral and perfumed, just deeper and more textured as you’d expect from what would have been a vineyard designate. Hope that helps!

FYI we just finally updated our Square invoice template with our newish logo. So if you open it and it looks different, that’s ok! We’re using this sorrel blossom from many of our labels as our new icon logo, in place of the old stylized shaft of wheat that people always thought was a fern lol. Looks like this:
