Come on. You have to give us some impressions. Salient differences. What did everyone say?
Are you asking about the difference between the 2019 Old and Young vine Pfeffer?
I think Guillermo is asking for @M1a_U’s impressions. I, too, am looking forward to comparing the old and young Pfeffers side by side.
Yes. A side by side with apparently a few people is perfect for general impressions.
Sorry, been crazy busy at work. Both lighter reds, visually made me expect to taste something like a mission, but quite different. Cabernet Pfeffer is new to me; I assumed from its name that pepper is an expected aroma or flavour, but I didn’t get that in the way I might with say Petite sirah–or at least not in-your-face black pepper, which is what I expected from the name. Apologies, the poor bottles had only just been delivered literally 2 hours before we opened them (not something I would normally do!) but my research team had a good day and it felt right to celebrate. Anyway, lots of pretty volatiles (strawberry, lingonberry, some dusty notes…something that reminded me of artemisia on a sunny day and made me homesick for California) on the nose for both when we popped them open. The “young vine” bottle was brighter and more forward (almost spritzy) in both fruit volatiles and acid impressions; the “old vine” bottle seemed to have darker, more savory notes, without being any heavier in texture, which I really liked. Both labelled 14% abv but neither gave that impression, seemed lower. Tannins in both fine and not particularly grippy or chewy.
Group were mostly folks not very experienced with wine but everyone enjoyed these and I think at least a couple (hesitant about red wine) were surprised that they did. Group was evenly split between preference for “old” vs. “young”. I have one bottle of each left and will be trying them with food after they’ve had a chance to rest.
@Nicole_Walsh would it be possible to ship to CT?
Great notes, thank you Mia! Yes, I can ship to CT. You will need to order on the “Shopping in CA” site, select “Pick up at Winery” at checkout and also purchase “Packaging” for $20 for the flat rate shipping. I have licensing through the tasting room, but am not able to get it on the website. Let me know if you have questions or you can also give me a call and I can place an order for you.
Thank you,
Nicole

Those are great notes thanks! And yes that lower alcohol profile was my impression last year too, which is great.
To correct myself (and not having the bottles in front of me) I went back to check and I think they are actually both labelled 13.5%. In any case, they still gave the impression of lower abv than that.
Curious if there is an ETA on shipping?
Hi, I am wondering if I missed your order somehow? Can you send me a confirmation or any details? I show I have shipped/delivered for everyone.
Thank you!

While you’re here Nicole, first I’m happy to report that I gifted one of the young vine bottles to a neighbor who was kind enough to take care of my dog while I took an unplanned overnight trip. She’s not a wine geek but said it was absolutely delicious.
Second, I remember hearing there were some issues with Enz Vineyard and smoke in 2020 and that the current management isn’t as before. Do you plan to go back to using Wirz fruit or where are you sourcing CP after this release?
Thanks for the feedback Guillermo. I source from Wirz every year. There is a very limited amount (3 tons or less depending on the year). You are correct, the Enz vineyard has become difficult to source as new management came in and has been selling to multiple wineries. I also source from Gimelli (next to Wirz).

I’ve still not received my order. do I need to do something else for shipping? thanks.
