Hi Nicole, I’m trying to order a Pfeffer 4pk to MI but the shipping doesn’t reflect the flat rate deal. Are you able to fix that after I place an order or should I wait for it to show properly thru vinoshipper?

Thanks Joaquin. Give me 5 minutes to try to fix. I will write you in a minute.

Nicole

Ok, I think I fixed it. Thank you for asking about this!

Nicole

Perfect, thank you! Ordered and now I can’t wait (until the cold weather here subsides tho)

Thank you! I definitely look forward to it!

Anything I should know for tasting or try with each one? Or should I hold on to some for a while before tasting?

Hi Joaquin,
Would you like me to wait until March or when do you want me to ship to you?

yeah March is probably safer than trying to get it out sooner. thanks!

HI Patrick,
The only thing I was planning to suggest with the 2019 Cinsault is to be sure the bottle is settled and I like to serve it slightly chilled. It is unfiltered and will show much better that way.

Thank you,
Nicole

Ah thank you for the advice! Very much appreciated

I’m curious whether the canning makes a difference to the wine. Is what’s in cans the same as what’s in bottle? The idea of a Cabernet Pfeffer in cans intrigues me as there are certainly times when a can would be convenient. The only canned wine I’ve had is Bonny Doon’s La Bulle-Moose but there was nothing in bottle for comparison.

We’ve really worked hard to make sure the quality of the wine in the can is high. We have found that the sulfur levels in particular need to be ultra low or in the case of the Riesling, I didn’t add any sulfur to the wine. I think that Maker is doing a great job with their canning and I am really happy with the wines I have canned with them. I don’t have a side by side to compare between bottle and can.

Thanks, Nicole.

Case arrived today… very excited to try these new wines after enjoying the Cabernet Pfeffer vertical last year (still have one 2018 left!).

Order received! Looking forward to the 2019 Enz Vineyard Pfeffers after trying the delicious 2017 Wirz Vineyard last year.

@Nicole_Walsh I have a question regarding ABV. The bottles for the 2019 Enz (both Young and Old Vine) are labeled as 13.5% ABV. The website says 14% ABV. I realize this isn’t exact, but which do you think is closer?

My notes say the Wirz bottle last year was labeled as 14% ABV but felt lighter in alcohol than that (a good thing).

Also, can you please talk about differences between Wirz and Enz Vineyards?

Finally, Bedrock lists their 2020 Enz Vineyard as “Lime Kiln Valley.” You list it as “Cienaga Valley.” I’m confused about that.

Glad the wine arrived! I hope you will enjoy:)

Nicole

Thanks Guillermo. The label is correct, I will update the website abv for the 2019 Pfeffers. Sometimes I may not have the exact alcohol when labels are set to print and it could be that the abv on the Wirz was a little less than 14%. Enz and Wirz vineyards are located about 3 miles away from each other in the Cienega Valley. They both have similar soils (decomposed granite and limestone) and both have old vine Cabernet Pfeffer. The old vine at Enz are said to be ~134 years old and the old vine I source from Wirz are about 100 years old. Enz is located off of Lime Kiln Road where the family owns a lime quarry. The Enz vineyard did obtain a new AVA called “Lime Kiln Valley” which is part of the larger Cienega Valley. I didn’t know at the time I was printing labels that they had a specialized AVA.

Thank you Nicole!

I didn’t realize Enz vineyard was that old. I thought it was “only” turning 100 this year.

I had been going by what the HVS website says. But I see on the CalWineries website that “there was a very old 15 acre vineyard on the property… planted by the original homesteaders in 1887.” They don’t mention which grapes those are and don’t even mention Cab Pfeffer as a varietal there, but I gather from your impression that it must be, making it 136 today (132 in 2019). Very interesting.

@Nicole_Walsh My bottles were shipped to a work address as I live in a state that Ser doesn’t ship to. There was much curiosity when I opened the box, so I decided to open one bottle each of the Cabernet Pfeffer bottlings. That turned what had been a good day into a great day. Really enjoyed them, so I am thinking about ordering more (except that I have to find room!).

ooh great. can’t wait for mine to arrive too.
