EXTENDED 2/1 to Midnight- Dovecote Estate- Regenerative Rhones from Alisos Canyon

Dovecote Estate: Regenerative Organic, Old Vine Rhone Varieties from Santa Barbara County’s Alisos Canyon

Hello Berserkers!

We are Dovecote Estate, nestled in the heart of Santa Barbara County’s smallest AVA, Alisos Canyon. We are stewards of the historic Thompson Vineyard, originally planted in 1989. Since 2015 we have been practicing regenerative farming, and only utilize organic materials. All ferments are native yeast. Our vineyard has long been a source for famed expressions of Rhone varieties, particularly Syrah, from some of the best names in Santa Barbara County, including A Tribute to Grace, Andrew Murray, Jaffurs, and Tensley. Our estate program is tiny; we only produce about 1,100 cases for ourselves annually, with the majority of our fruit being farmed for other boutique wineries.

Owner and Winemaker, Noah Rowles

For our Berserkerday offering, we’ve put together several verticals to showcase the nuance of vintage difference as well as our wines’ ability to age. Additionally, we have a 6-pack bundle to give you a broad overview of the wines. Wines are 30-40% off, and include flat rate shipping of $10 for any orders over 6 bottles. We want you to get a feel for the distinctive character of our estate, and the unique personality of wines from the Alisos Canyon AVA.

Shipping Info:
Please note, for all non-California orders, contact us directly at winery@dovecote.com or 805-972-2321. We ship to most states. All wines require adult signature (21+) for delivery. Sales tax if required will be added at checkout. Flat rate shipping of $10 for all orders of 6+ bottles (AK & HI excluded).

Noumenon Vertical - $200 (Normally $300)

Noumenon is our flagship Syrah (100%), a selection of just 2-3 barrels each year. We prize texture and structure above all for this bottling, and these 3 vintages are aging gracefully with a lot of runway left. Syrah from our estate is dark and powerful, but never lacking for vibrancy or structure.

  • 2019 Noumenon (94 Wine Enthusiast, 93 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.9% ABV
  • 2020 Noumenon (95 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.3% ABV
  • 2021 Noumenon (96 Decanter, 96 Jeb Dunnuck, 96 Wine Enthusiast, 95 Cristaldi, 93 James Suckling)- 14.5% ABV

Redtail Vertical - $125 (Normally $195)

Redtail is our Estate red blend, comprised of all 4 red varieties grown in our vineyard, intended to capture the essence of our site as a whole. The blend percentages change depending on the character of the vintage, but it is always a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Petite Sirah.

  • 2020 Redtail (93 Wine Enthusiast)- 14.1% ABV
  • 2021 Redtail (96 Wine Enthusiast, 92 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.2% ABV
  • 2022 Redtail (95 Cristaldi, 93+ Jeb Dunnuck, 91 Vinous)- 13.6% ABV

Petite Sirah Vertical - $160 (Normally $240)

Petite Sirah from Thompson is singular within the small world of California Petite. Our plant material is only found here in Los Alamos, the Carrari clone, which old school farmer farmer Joe Carrari smuggled over from France in the ‘80s. Structured and brooding, from a hillside of flint and chert, the aromatic panoply in our Petite Sirah is unlike any expression of this grape you’ve had before.

  • 2019 Petite Sirah (93 Jeb Dunnuck, 93 Wine Enthusiast)- 14.8% ABV
  • 2020 Petite Sirah (96 Wine Enthusiast, 93 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.4% ABV
  • 2021 Petite Sirah (94 Jeb Dunnuck, 94 Cristaldi, 93 Wine Enthusiast, 93 James Suckling)- 14.5% ABV

Estate 6-Pack - $300 (Normally $450)

In addition to inclusions from the above verticals, we’re featuring Mantle, which is a co-ferment of Grenache and Syrah (50/50), as well as 2 vintages of Syrah: 2021, which is a pure and still quite youthful expression of Thompson Syrah, along with 2017, which shows our site’s ability to age.

  • 2021 Noumenon (96 Decanter, 96 Jeb Dunnuck, 96 Wine Enthusiast, 95 Cristaldi, 93 James Suckling)- 14.5% ABV
  • 2021 Estate Syrah (95 Wine Enthusiast, 94 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.7% ABV
  • 2021 Redtail (96 Wine Enthusiast, 92 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.2% ABV
  • 2021 Petite Sirah (94 Jeb Dunnuck, 94 Cristaldi, 93 Wine Enthusiast, 93 James Suckling)- 14.5% ABV
  • 2021 Mantle (94 Wine Enthusiast, 93 Jeb Dunnuck)- 14.2% ABV
  • 2017 Estate Syrah (94 Wine Enthusiast)- 14.9% ABV

Technically, Dovecote (along with @SonjaMag of Clementine Carter) were not part of the traditional Newbie process, as I took it upon myself to literally recruit more Santa Barbara wineries, as they are grossly underrepresented in BerserkerDay, so, as highlighted in this thread, I selected the best of the best to join us, and Dovecote was an EASY call, not only for the quality of wines across the lineup (truly!) but Cam is dialed in, and I know communication, fulfillment, and overall experience will be as if he was a seasoned BerserkerDay veteran from the very start.

My daughter was here briefly with three of her friends, stayed the night on the way down to San Diego for her birthday weekend (birthday today!) and I forgot to ask her to write something for Dovecote!!

Would love to buy some of these, but am being told by the website you can’t ship to Georgia…? That’s the first time I’ve ever encountered that problem…is it real, or is there a workaround?

For out-of-state orders, we process directly in-house rather than online. You can call me at 805-972-2321 to process or send an email to winery@dovecote.com.

Thanks - should I call now?

Yes please! If for some reason it gets disconnected (our ranch can be spotty) you can call my personal cell, 805-448-9725

Cool - i’ll try you now. It’ll show up as 404-881-4100

Hi Michael, I haven’t seen the text come through but our ranch phone seems to be having issues, go ahead and text my personal cell- 805-448-9725

I hope I am not too late on my comment, but for those of you who have not tried Dovecote, you should give them a SWIRL! They are lovely well crafted wines. After visiting them last year, I was excited to see them on this year’s line up. Now, I can’t wait to get my order from them. Thanks Cam!

Thank you for the kind words @blakelea!

We’re going one more day! through midnight tonight 2/1
