Lopez Vineyard
We farm less than one acre of Cabernet on the east side of Oakville — volcanic, iron-rich soil that sits between some pretty iconic neighbors: Dalla Valle, Rudd, Backus, Gargiulo.
But unlike our famous friends, we keep things quixotically small. Our vineyard is family-run, hand-farmed, and rooted in love. Each vintage yields just over three barrels — which means fewer than 100 cases per year, total.
We’ve farmed this land since 1989, first selling fruit to top producers before launching Sylvie Estate in 2010. Working with winemaker Kurt Niznik (whose past projects include Continuum and Melka/Caldwell), we’ve always aimed to craft wines of structure and clarity. Each vintage is a different lens on the same site — and tasting them side by side reveals how place, weather, and time shape the voice of a vineyard. For Henry Lopez — a research geneticist — the evolution of this tiny plot has always been a source of wonder: like watching terroir unfold under a microscope, one season at a time.
