I have to be a bit vague here, but just got an allocation (from an excellent producer) for a rosé that was much closer to $50 than $30, if that makes sense. A blend as well. Where a full case had no discount on either shipping nor case.
I’m positive it’s a great bottle of wine, but a bit curious - would you spend that kind of money on a rosé? What would be your upper limit for a blended rosé?
if it is not valentini or some champagne probably not. plenty of satisfying still (or even pet nat) rosé for $20-30 out there to sample if you are in need of a thirst quencher.
For still roses, I’d spend that much (or a bit more) on Anglore, Lopez de Heredia, Valentini, or Lurquin. Outside of these, I buy very few roses, I prefer crisp whites or light reds as summer sippers.
Yes, but very rarely. I’ve spent that on Musar’s rose, which I believe is a blend. I’m sure many folks would cast a vote for Lopez de Heredia’s rose, which is also a blend, iirc — I’ve never tried it, so no comment on my willingness to spend the money it commands.
I love Tempier, but not three times as much as some other fine southern French roses.
I’ve had Lopez de Heredia once. Wonderful, but simply not a necessity for me.
Let me put it this way: I do not enter my roses in CellarTracker.
I know that there are a handful of domestic roses that folks on this board seem to like and are willing to spend the money on - but they are all pretty ‘unique’ in style - SQN, Antica Terra, Andremily, Fingers Crossed
And I agree about Tempier and Cotat - though these are ‘special’ purchases that I don’t make often.
I think many producers have ‘held fast’ at $25-35 over the past 3-5 years or so - but there are a few that are now creeping up above that.
By the way, we still need to trade away my friend - let’s make that happen ASAP
I got that same allocation this morning. I thought about it for a minute and then thought about all the lulu and couple others i have that are nearly 1/2 the price point and walked away.
I always have a hard time with pricing questions here. I drink wine almost every day. I almost never buy it at retail as I was ITB (full time) for 45 years and have ways to not pay retail.
The average retail price of my typical bottle is ~$20 - 30. I now almost never drink any Rose that retails for much more than $20. The depth and breadth of styles available for ~$20 is breathtaking. Just finished my last bottle of 2023 Domaine Zafeirakis Limniona Rose. This is a ~$20 - 25 Rose. I’ll have the 2024 here soon. Mind-blowingly good, but something to drink within a few hours after bottling.
All the Clos Cibonne roses are amazing and super complex and around $30-$90 depending on the wine. I especially like the Cuvée Speciale des Vignettes (~$40ish), which is allowed to age one year sous voile - the wine is always rich and very savory, saline, and long. IYKYK.
BTW, for those who love the LdH Rosé, please look out for the Orixe Sotelo Rosé en Flor. It’s not the same of course, but it’s got some of the same sensibilities. Plus it’s from a relatively new California winery.
Have paid between $100-200 for Rosè and had incredible experiences so never thought twice. Parisy by Chateau Des Tours is one of my favorite wines. Love SQN, Fingers Crossed, LdH, Andremily. IMO varietal doesn’t matter as long as you love the wine.
