EWR to Manhattan - rush hour

my flight arrives friday at 4:45pm.

Quickest way into the city? (staying at the JW Marriott). All I have is a carryon. Hoping to make a 6:30pm reservation LOL

PATH trains should get you there if your flight is on time. If your dinner is far from the hotel then checking in and then getting to dinner might be an issue. But with just carry on going straight to dinner should work.

AirTrain to NJ Transit is the fastest way I know. Just make sure you choose an NJ Transit train that stops at EWR.

No direct connection for PATH at Newark Airport. You have to make your way to Newark Penn Station to catch a PATH train. Path also terminates at 33rd & 6th, so 26 blocks more to get to hotel. Same issue with NJ Transit, you will be dropped at Penn Station, 34th & 7th. But as Sarah notes, you can connect at EWR by hopping on the AirTrain, available at any terminal, to take you to the NJ Transit hub on site. NJ Transit trains have a more spaced out schedule than PATH, so there could be a waiting gap for the next train to arrive. PATH trains run pretty continuously.

Fastest way may just be to cab it. Check Waze when you land for travel time via car.

NJ transit is the way to go. We were driving out of NYC last night around 6, inbound traffic was crazy.

The PATH transfer is not a big deal and won’t slow you down that much. If you had major luggage I would agree w @TGigante for sure on that point. However, IMO a cab at that hour is asking for trouble.

NJ Transit will take you to Secaucus with quick (though SRO) transit into Penn Station. PATH will take you either as far as 33rd west side or lower Manhattan. 26 blocks straight up 6th or 8th is an easy trade (for me) against the possibility of hell in the Holland or Lincoln tunnels.

Only thing against NJ transit to me is the frequency of ridiculous sh*t at Penn — minor derailments, self-deletions and assorted only-in-NYC events that often delay getting into Penn St, sometimes by more than an hour. Probably won’t happen, but when it does it’s annoying AF.

John:
How do you get to PATH from Newark Airport?
Do you have to take the one stop from NJ Transit Airport to NJ Transit Newark Penn?

More importantly where is dinner at?

If taking the NJ Transit or PATH, will be quicker to buy tickets using the NJ Transit app at your convenience than fumbling around figuring out the ticket machine.

Yes, Newark airport to Newark and then the Path.

Convinced me.

With a referral credit from a friend plus a gift card promotion they were doing. Came out to $225

Will be funny if this ends up taking me a hour door to door in the end.

Baller!

Actually. Wine first. Then dinner. Just wanna make ample time to check in. Drink some wine. Then meander over to dinner (Cesar)

Oh my. Subway is long. Road is busy.
Let me just chopper in….

If you stayed at the Trump tower can you land on its helipad?

I can break out the line:

I’ll be in NYC end of month. Staying in Park Slope and landing in EWR… $175 for regular Uber makes $225 for a chopper look like a steal.

Of course the helicopter won’t be taking you to Park Slope. Still a healthy Uber ride from the landing spot.
