Everything is wrong with Lotus of Siam NYC

Lyle-

As you know, I make my living selling wine to restaurants. I’m extremely forgiving when it comes to service and even food quality when I dine out because I have an idea of what these folks go through. I have never called out a restaurant publicly, but the experience last night was so atrocious that something had to be said. The fact that seven other serious food & wine people/itbers, including a restaurant owner, felt the same way should tell you something.

Brad

You had a point until those last two. neener

Poor form? Poor taste? You can decide not give the post much weight if you would like, but it seems more than odd to attack someone who is simply reporting a terrible dining experience. Brad doesn’t appear to be organizing a jihad or a boycott…

Bruce

If they are doing a pre-opening food comped dinner, then complaining is wrong, if you are charging then you have certain expectations to meet.

And under any circumstances the actions of the managers are not acceptable and resume’s should be accepted, Victor aren’t you free evenings, it is the “Nuclear winter” on wall street.

Lyle, how nice of you to drop in and give us your opinion.
I thought you were done with us and “don’t get involved here.” anymore?
Glad to see you, post more please!

Thanks Mel! [bye.gif]

Brad has every right to complain and I have every right to say what I feel. My experience was different and I am sure my experience tonight will be too.

Lyle,

Please let us know. Your pics of the F&F dinner you attended certainly stoked my desire. And because Brad, Christine, Michel, Wilfred, Suzanne & Kenny had such a different experience it is important to know of it. ‘Just Opened’ is no excuse for what they endured.

I’ll take my $$ to Sripraphai, just down the road from my new digs, and let LOS work out the kinks before I dish out $75+tax, tip & wine, thank you.

hi lyle
are you the same guy i had dinner with at per se? funny, you sound different on the internet.
wtf? i wouldn’t say i’m the greatest fan of this place, but you really seem to hate it here, so why bother? seriously.

Wow. That’s disappointing. I’ve heard enough good things about the Vegas location, and I was excited. It’s unfortunate, but sounds like an easy pass now.

Lyle

As a good friend I hope your experience is far better than ours.

What would you do if it was similar?

Something else to consider. Last night the somm paid unusual attention to one table and never returned to ours. Maybe some get good service at the expense of others and that explains the discrepancy?

Anyway have a great time tonight!

Lyle, think you are missing the mark here. We’re talking $75 each. They just saved me $150 plus plus for the upcoming weekend.

Beyond the personal service they did for me, there simply is no excuse for the management attitude. I know many of these fun loving folks, and had management came over with the appropriate attitude, there wouldn’t be this bitter taste in their mouth.

Lyle…sooooooo glad you could stop by and take a shit on the board here. Please tell your handler Danny Boy I said hi, as well as hipster DB Pirahna Fish Boy.

Might I ask…what is your tie-in here with the restaurant…as you see fit to return from your self imposed exile. And, please save me the clever and witty response. A simple answer will be more than welcome.

Just got back from dinner. Food was very, very good and the service was certainly adequate. I have never been to the one in Las Vegas so I can’t compare. Several dishes were top notch.
Obviously someone had the normal experience and someone else had the abnormal one. We’ll have to wait for a larger sampling to know which is which. That said, I would have no trepidation returning for dinner.

Btw, I drank more Riesling tonight than I’ve drunk all year. Some excellent wines, but for me the '71 DP and '95 DP Oeno bested them all as did the '90 Leroy CdlR.

I staggered into the Las Vegas place cold and alone on a Thursday night and had stellar service the first time I went. So I guess I have biased high standards for service.

Well, either they got their S*it together after that debacle or Brad’s group showed up with “sock it to me” t-shirts on. Better let things settle for a couple weeks and see if the restaurant pulls it together.

BUT, I wouldn’t forget that kind of service and return to the place. We’ve had two new restaurants open in the last two months and reports on both restaurants read like these two. One even complained of a four day old dead fish smell in restaurant.

Great news Ray. So glad to hear it. Did they know you and Lyle were coming?

I love the Vegas place. No restaurant should have such extreme variability from night to night. I pray you nor Lyle ever have the kind of night we had to put up with and finally walk out from.

To all my loving fans here. Tonight’s meal was immaculate. The 90 Leroy CDLR was great but turned into '95 Rochioli after extended air.

Sorry y’all had such a bad experience. Different than mine.

tex. I love you so much it cannot be expressed in words. Only emoticons. flirtysmile flirtysmile Can I hang with you and Tyler? Our own private Berserkerfest?? Dan says hi Tex. And to you to Tyler . . . . . [worship.gif] [worship.gif]
