2016 vintage available for $45 at NH Wine & Liquor and wondering if it’s worth cellaring a few, but can’t find many tasting notes n CT and I don’t know anything about the producer or vineyard.
Haven’t tried this one, but I like their wines in general going back to the 70s.
For those who may not know, State Lane Vineyard was historically a Beringer property before Lou Kapcsandy purchased it and went through an extensive replanting by Wetlaufer-Turley. Personally I’d be interested in tasting anything that came from that site, especially if SVD. I thought I read somewhere here Roy Piper recommended CdV as someplace that has improved recently. I remember the wines from the 80s were beautiful examples of Stags Leap District.
I think I’ll grab one bottle tomorrow and give it a long decant and then decide whether to purchase several for the cellar. I don’t drink a lot of Napa but I like to put away some nice bottles to share with friends and family, since they are mostly 100% cab sav drinkers.
FYI… the CdV “State Lane Vineyard” is NOT Lou’s vineyard. There are a few vineyards on State Lane, which is off Yountville Crossroad, including Kapcsandy and also Casa Piena. As I understand it, this is CvD’s own vineyard on that road.
Thanks, Roy. That certainly adds to confusion. ![]()
The CdV website says:
Clos du Val’s 17.5-acre State Lane Vineyard includes eight separate blocks, with 10.5 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, five acres of Cabernet Franc and two acres of Sauvignon Blanc. In 2002, the entire vineyard was replanted to Clos Du Val’s specifications.
I grabbed a bottle today. Will try later this week.
