Estimating Wine Consumption-Dinner Event

I have been asked to provide and serve the wine at a dinner for 6 some distance from my home cellar, at a location where I wouldn’t be able to pick up additional bottles of my selections. We will be driving the 400 miles so will have some additional but not unlimited space and want to bring additional wines for sampling over a long 4 day weekend event. I usually assume 4-5 servings from a 750ml bottle. The meal in question is the entre of grilled salmon filets. The host will be providing the salad and desert wines. There will be sides. I assume 3 bottles would be sufficient but 2 would be pushing it, also assuming the host is using bordeaux/pinot glasses. Reactions, thought appreciated.

Carlton,

If you are asking about volume, 2 bottles should cover 6 people for 1 course + room to spare (that is 8.3 oz a person with a standard pour being 5oz). Bring the 3rd for backup (and prepare to drink it later that weekend)

Whoa!

Only you know your audience. Some 6 people groups would clean 3 bottles with salmon easily (2 heavy pours per person) and others would barely get through 1.5.

Depends on the crowd. Bring more than you need and keep a few extra in a cooler in the car.

Some of my groups of 6 can easily drink two bottles/person over a multi hour lunch with lots of food.
