Once in a while here, Eric Texier of CdR and Burgundy fame, enlightens his fans on how his wines are shaping up. I was intrigued so scoured around Edmonton for a possible find. Chat Fou was the only example I could find, wondering if it was for the American market alone as I could find no mention on his website?
TN: 2011 Chat Fou Cotes du Rhone Eric Texier.
12.5% alc, good natural cork, $20 Cdn, aged concrete tanks. 80% Grenache, plus some Clairette and Marsanne.
The color is quite light, nice aromatic aroma with raspberry, currant and slight pepper. Initial entry thought was that even this light CdR could use some food. Quite easy drinking, not at all tannic and not a big structured wine. Pleasant for sure but thought some bitterness on the finsh. However on day 2, filled out quite nicely, riper too and went well with a great homemade burger and onion relish. Meow!
