Seriously? I would never tire of tasting hundreds and hundreds of wines!
Not to mention you get paid for it!

After maybe trying 15 wines, even if I’m spitting, they all start to taste the same. Guess that’s why I’m a consumer, not a critic. I do agree it’s a tough job.
Gratz to Eric.
I am bummed that this will likely mean he posts much less to CT though. Maybe Ian can step in for him over there.
Ian, I will miss your insights.
Eric, I am very much looking forward to yours.
Turn, turn, turn…
Cheers!
+1
Going to miss his Morrell posts, too. Imagine that: retailer email you actually want to read?
Yes, I was bitten by the bug a few years ago and never looked back. Good to hear I’m not alone.
That may be the best compliment anyone could have given me… Thank you for that.
Everyone who did tastings several days in a row with more than 50 wines a day knows how hard work this is. Doing it for years is really challenging.
I wish you good luck and health, Eric.
The blog profile says “cyclist,” so you can’t be half bad.

You know we have a cycling thread in Asylum, right? Check it out, gets more action than the wine threads, lol! Those competitive fools…
Ian has reached a stage in his life where he doesn’t want to deal with deadlines and tasting hundreds and hundreds of wines. I can’t blame him. That day will come for all of us, sooner or later. Of course, we are sad to see Ian leave, but this is a tremendous opportunity for Eric to take a leadership role in Italian wine for a huge, global audience. And I know he is going to crush it. I could not be more excited for him. The right person is energized by challenges, the harder the better…that 's what it takes to win.
Amazing hire! Way to think long term here too. Eric is a tremendous writer as you acknowledged, and I could not be more thrilled to be reading him more regularly now.
Thank you everyone for all of the kind words and support.
I’m very excited to be joining the Vinous team. Frankly, this is the realization of a goal that i’ve been working toward for over eight years. I can’t imagine a better place to be right now, or a group of more talented, professional and passionate wine writers to be working with.
I am also a huge fan of Ian’s work, and I have spent a great deal of time tasting and working alongside him. He was an inspiration to me. I would often look to him after an eight - ten hour day, working in the summer heat of a Piedmont tasting room, and there he would be, still going strong and giving 100% at all times. It’s amazing to watch him work, but also amazing to have had the pleasure of being able to speak with him personally about wine and producers–knowledge flows from him like a river. That said, I have every intention of working as hard as I can to continue the level and quality of coverage that Ian brought to Vinous, as well as add my own talents.
I’ve been a board member here for many, many years, and although I wasn’t always able to post frequently, I’ve always been an avid reader of the posts here and enjoy the input of its members. There is so much honesty, insight and wine knowledge to be found in this community, I have every intention to contribute more here.
Thank you again for all of your kind words. You guys are amazing.
HUGE congrats! Well deserved! I’m sure Jeremy and team will miss you greatly, but your addition to Vinous benefits more of us now

Sounds great, I will absolutely be spending some time there.

Thanks Ian, great praise, and especially from you. I hope we have a chance to connect again soon.
congratulations Eric.
Congratulations Eric. I always enjoyed your posts, your enthusiasm for Italian wines and your understandable straightforward tasting notes. Hope you have a great time as a reviewer for Vinous.

Thanks David, it should only get better from here.
Congratulations and best of luck to you, Eric.
Congratulations Eric! Even if we don’t always agree on the wines.
Congratulations, Eric!
Ian’s encyclopaedic knowledge of Italian grapes and producers from lesser-known regions will certainly be missed. He is a unique source of information. The only plausible source (including Italian language, to my knowledge) on many of those wines.
Big shoes to fill, Eric. I wish you all the best and look forward to your first article.
