Envoyer Fine Wines Shipping Question

Having 9 bottles shipped today from EFW to my offsite in Sacramento. Just got the invoice and I was charges $30 for GSO shipping, $7 for the shipper and tax on top of all of that! Is this normal for EFW? I have never shipped with them, picked up my stash when I was down in So-Cal in July. I guess it all balances out because their wine prices are so damn good.

Anyone else have similar experiences with basically crazy shipping charges?

FWIW, I sent Greg an email and I am waiting to hear back.

Just had a similar discussion with fellow ATLer BK last night that they are a bit high in comparison to others.
I’m talking case prices via ground CA to GA.
Not a deal breaker by any means, but more than most. FWIW

I’ll be requesting my first shipment from them soon after buying through the summer. I’d be willing to pay a little more than average for shipping given the excellent wine prices, but thanks for the heads-up. Please keep us posted.

Heard back from Terry who does the shipping for EFW. He did confirm everything was correct, $37 for shipping, $7 for the shipper and $3.24 CA sales tax for a total of $40.24 for 9 bottles

I do think this is a bit high for GSO from So-Cal to Sacramento. Even though it adds about $4.50 per bottle to the total cost, everything is still a deal.

Shipping costs are a bit high but the service and prices are hard to beat. I was caught off guard but I will still buy from EFW.

Greg gets the good stuff at killer prices!

Rico Suave,

I’m happy to do a pick up for you sometime when I’m driving up to Napa/Sonoma. I should be sometime in late November, tail end of the month. You’d just have to make your way down to Napa.

Wait, in fact, I’ll be in Sacramento just prior to that - Nov 17-20 - and we are driving up there (it’s a big regional championship for Ella’s Irish dance). Lemme know. I’ll call it your wedding gift or something. Actually, Christy’s wedding gift. She’s WAY more awesome than you.

she is definitely more awesome than me; I am marrying up!

Thanks for the offer, I am sure I will buy some more stuff from envoyer before you make your way up here.

don’t go nuts - we don’t have much room in the Jetta sportwagon

I have had great experieneces with EFW. Shipping charges from SoCal to Seattle have been reasonable (all full cases).

One of the other great services they provide is to personally deliver to local storage facilities.

I had this discussion with Greg and Terry in the spring. Some stores blend the cost of packing stuff into overhead and just charge for shipping, some charge per order for both shipping and packing. Envoyer takes the latter approach, as does, say, Crush in New York. It means you have to mentally add some dollars to their bottle prices when you are shopping.

Envoyer are very nice folks, without doubt. I’ve found the prices they offer on special releases are often matched by other retailers, but their cellar finds are unique.

Has there been a price increase in the past 6 months? I’m pretty sure my last shipment in March or April was ~$36-40/case all in.
