Enderle & Moll

Pink wines.
Came across a case in the cellar from 2017/18

Remember thinking they would be more interesting next year.
Well found a Few and several next year later.

Thoughts on any of their wines though noted

I’ll pop one this weekend but was wondering if anybody Has cellared any

Haven’t tried a lot but remember the 2014 Pinot Noir Muschelkalk being very impressive in a light and bright style.

A couple options…drink or hold :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I have a lot of experience with their wines. I was actually just with Sven last night in the Mosel. He has since split and is doing his own project.

Bottom line is you are either going to have something great or dead. I have had the Rose at 5-10 years and if stored properly it can be great. They did have a rough period for a few years due to some serious personal issues and the wines were not as clean as they should be. They have made some of the greatest Pinots I have had from Germany. They have a very talented new cellar master and are back on track in recent vintages.

I don’t know if the rose gain that much in complexity with aging, though they will still drink well if traveled
and stored well. Can’t recall if I had the 17 and/or 18 (forgot to update in CellarTracker) within the last 3-6 months but it was delicious, drinking really well. My feeling is that the 18 will hold up better with time though.

This is consistent with the red wines where the 17 are in a good spot, best straight from the go (very crunchable), no or limited benefit of air time.

The 18s on the other hand improves and gains complexity with more time open. On the second night (for the PN) red fruit and more depth shows from the initial relatively dark fruit/berry notes. I don’t decant the wines and rather let the bottles rest over night.

Recent notes from earlier this year
Enderle & Moll Müller Thurgau Pur 2020 Landwein Oberrhein, Germany
Full yellow colour. Hugely aromatic floral nose with notes of table grape, melon and fine spices. The palate is fresh and textured with exotic fruit and a touch of citrus brightness. So expressive. 93/100

Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir 2018 Landwein Oberrhein, Germany
13% alcohol. This is their entry level Pinot Noir they call ‘basis’, but it’s not marked on the label.Beautiful aromatics here with a sappy, leafy green hint to sweetly fragrant red cherries and cranberries. The palate is light but with some lovely flavour of red cherries, dried herbs, sour cherry and raspberry, with a brightness and a touch of sweetness to the acid line. Amazing drinkability, with a sense of purpose, too. Just enough volatile acidity to lift the aromas and sweeten the acid, but not too much. Lovely stuff. 93/100

Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir 2021 Landwein Oberrhein, Germany
This is ‘Basis’. Aromatic floral cherry fruit nose leads to a supple, rounded, textural palate with a very fine leafy edge to the strawberry and cherry fruit, with a sour cherry twist. Lively acidity here. 93/100

Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Liaison 2019 Landwein Oberrhein, Germany
Sweetly aromatic with nice texture, showing sweet berry fruit with a sour cherry twist to the cherry and plum notes. Smooth and ripe, and tending to elegance. 93/100

Enderle & Moll Pinot Noir Burntsandstein 2018 Landwein Oberrhein, Germany
Sweetly aromatic, this is supple, elegant and alive with a nervy acidity that adds a sweet spicy edge to the ripe fruit. So expressive: elegant but with a hint of wildness. 94/100

In 2022, I had a magnum of 2007 Buntsandstein. It was very good, and the first wine that I imported from Enderle & Moll to the States.

Was that the one Stefan opened? Sven and I were talking about it last night.

Who is Stefan? I cellared the wine since release and uncorked it in my apartment in Trier last year.

Just coincidence Sven said Stefan Steinmetz opened an 07 mag last year.

As the rosé wines are from 2018 you might be lucky as thats a good vintage from E&M.

I have no experience with the whites with age. Never been too impressed with them though.

My overall advice is drink though, as this is not their high end wines.

Thanks. I wasn’t sure which Stefan you were referring to.

A few other reference points.

2014 Liaison - last bottle I had was in September and it has consistently been great over the last 5 years despite being a quite challenging vintage. Showed fruits, tertiary notes like spices while still the sapidic with a drink ability that makes you reach for the next pour.

2015 Liaison - I have been a bit underwhelmed over the years in that I felt the fruit felt somewhat tired and bordering cooked fruit and then a little while ago I had a beautiful bottle that was singing. And I see why others have praised the vintage.

2016 Pinot noir / Liaison - I love this vintage, all bottles have showers really well and just keeps building up in dept and complexity throughout the night.

2017 Pinot noir / “Liaison - very directly charming and drinkability extreme mode now. Not as complex perhaps and some VA.

2018 Pinot noir / Liaison - as I mentioned, in addition to the red fruit spectra it has more darker fruits and berries (the former shows more over time).

Of the top bottlings, the most recent I have had was the 2017 Ida and it was not very giving while yet a good wine. My guess is that it needs more time to show more nuances.

As for the whites, I quite like the Pinot Blanc and Muller-T of the 2016-18s that I have had. They can all have such an intensity that I can imagine it being a bit overwhelming for some with a year, two or three in bottle helping to mellow things a bit.

Have not had any vintages since the 2018 bottles (bought way too much but don’t regret a single bottle!), though ordered a few of the recent vintages to check in on the changes since.

Honestly this is how I remember these. Complex certainly, but not a refreshing style. A little too much funk for summer sippers so I put them in the cellar only to be discovered 5 years later lol.
How fun that you were hanging with him last night. Wish we could have popped through these for @science!

At least to me with European access to the wines 2017/18 were not problematic years (even though 2017 was a year with hail, but the vintage might be a bit more polarizing with VA).

Encouraged by this thread, I tried Enderle & Moll’s 2016 Liaison last night. Such a beautiful, elegant, interesting wine. Thank you. (Shame about the name, but whatever)
