Edingurgh dining

Heading to Scotland for a 10 day golfing extravaganza and will be in Edinburgh for a couple nights before the group meets. Any ideas on dining spots?
Also any interesting Scotch distilliries to visit fairly close to town (will not have car).

The Kitchen was everything I hoped for and expected from a Michelin starred restaurant. most other meals were OK when we were last there (2007). Except for the Kings rib, I am addicted to that pork/mystery meat concoction.

My wife and I enjoyed the old neighborhood bars in the Leith area two of the more well known are The Volunteer Arms(Volly a Leith) and Port O’leith both worth the trip.

Are you playing Kingsbarns? It is my favorite golf course ever, I played it 3 times in seven days.

I don’t have anything intelligent to say about restaurants and I haven’t tried the (very limited) distillery options, but the Cadenhead’s Edinburgh shop is well worth a visit:

They have a good variety of whisky in barrel, all available for tasting and purchase. Their Campbelltown is particularly noteworthy.

Try the haggis!

A gourmet Italian friend tried it and said “When they served it, I thought it was shit. When I tasted it, I knew that it was!”

Kitchen and Martin wishart.

Try haggis if you like offal, if you don’t then don’t try it (but don’t call your self a gourmet…)

Douse liberally with whisky.

Thanks for the rec’s. God I hope I dont get served Haggis, I am ok going thru life without that experience.

Yes playing Kingsbarnes along with most of the other great ones. Praying for dry weather.

Man you are not kidding about Kingsbarns! What a course, played it on our last day and it was spectacular to say the least. My new favorite day of golfing anywhere in the world with Pebble Beach now in second place. We also really enjoyed the Old course, the Crown course, Carnoustie, Gleneagles and Turnberry.
