Eating in paris with my 15 year old son.....and other related questions

Mark,

I just edited my post about the vintage stores in Paris…one was on Ile St. Louis, not Ile de la Cite. Also found the name of it. Not sure if it was men’s stuff as well, but my daughter did very well there, especially considering that her Grandmother was in the store with her.

two weeks out. largely thanks to the info above we’re all set and it will involve a lot of bistros.

as an aside, there a lot of chatter about people questioning travel in the current environment.
would anyone give that a second thought right now?

Be careful with bed bugs.

We returned from Paris a week ago. After 10/7, there was an increase in visible police presence, although not at the level following the 2015 atrocities (at least before we left). As mentioned in the other Paris discussions, protests often take place in and around Place Republique, so be aware if you are in the area. I didn’t feel any sense of threat anywhere in the city.

lots of talk of bed bugs
just burn everything before i walk in my house after we return?!?

Please do report back on the bistros. There’s a small chance my son and I will be in Paris in December, and while he enjoys good food he is definitely not a Michelin man.

will do patrick

anyone been to rotisserie d’argent?

Heard both good and bad reviews.

I’m headed home from Paris now. There were lots of police around Republique in the afternoon/early evening as Mark stated but aside from that everything seemed fine.

We were worried about bedbugs staying both in an Airbnb and hotel for a night. We checked thoroughly and fortunately didn’t see or experience any. That said I’d be careful/worried on the middle/lesser cost places. I think the viral press probably forced hotels and airbnbs to be proactive about dealing with the issue.

We liked the S/O hotel, deals with Amex points and great views.

The one time I had a concern about possible bed bugs (someone claimed to have seen one in another room) I simply entered my house via the garage bagged up all my clothes and luggage and left them in the garage for a few weeks, then washed and cleaned everything thoroughly.

brian
was the s/o a little too far out of the way?
i’d love to use amex for that but thought i need to be more central
thanks

Mark- For us, for one night it was perfect and you do get 4pm check out with amex. It is maybe a ten minute walk to Bastile and close to metro lines. Easy walk to the 6th and the 11th. I’m also not afraid to jump on lime bikes to go 2-3 miles when needed which is my preferred way to get around.

We stayed in the Canal St. Martin neighborhood the rest of the time in a cool top floor airbnb and I like to be in more local nighborhoods like that so it worked well for us and was like a mile to the Marais.

so it was a good albeit very quick trip. 3 full days in paris.
1st some casual observations. it is a BIG city. getting to places that seemed close on a map took forever to walk to, but we did mostly walk the entire time despite on and off rain every day. also the amount of pot smoke in the streets is practically nonexistant. nyc on the other hand…
we did well with the second hand stores, although hours are definitely weird. my kid seemed to like some japanese specialty type shops and of course balenciaga anywhere he could find it but found a lot of what was in the frip shops to be regular u.s. clothing.
restaurants went like this
1st morning on arrival went to breizh marais empty at 915 and packed by 945 great buckwheat galette and crepes and also had to have a dozen oysters just because
that night we went to rotisserie d’argent. it was very crowded with both tourists and locals and was really quite good. the service was surly but fine and the chicken was 8/10. pike quenelles were excellent
lunch the next day was at brutos (thanks robert) omg so worth the walk i’ve never had better chicken anywhere and even my boy was seriously impressed a whole chicken is too much for 2 lovely room with cool service staff note this is not a place to walk in it’s very small and was packed definitely the best food of our trip!
had a lunch at bistro lazare which was good but not memorable and then another croque monsieur at deux magots which he liked a lot including the history of the place.
hotel was near pont neuf maison albar was centrally located and easy to walk to the marais which was where we spent most of our time the hotel was very clean with spacious rooms and great breakfast with a decent pool/spa in the basement.
my sincere thanks to all for the help
