Eating and Drinking in San Francisco

Nuce write up, thanks.

For me, my expectations in BTG are do low that I’m thrilled to see Peppiere BTG.

Has anyone be to Sirene Oak yet? (Paul Einbud’s new spot in Oakland)

I’ll likely get there regardless, but any and all thoughts are welcome.

Yes, I’ve been twice and have had fantastic meals. You can see my write-up above: Eating and Drinking in San Francisco - #597 by Zac_M

The fried chicken and biscuits are a must, as well as the shrimp chorizo.

I was honestly shocked at the BTG options throughout the region. I hoped that more places would support local growers, but frankly if they did the choices made were… odd.

BTW, a quick shout out to the Bat Cave in Santa Rosa if you’re a Scifi/fantasy geek like myself and my son. It was like a smaller version of the Forbidden Planet in NYC, with tons of old school stuff and comics.

Also, the Pacific Coast Air Museum is an awesome place to spend a morning.

(this is one of the F-15s that flew over NYC on 9/11, I remember seeing them fly super low overhead that day)
Cheers!

Lolme. I even liked your post😂.

Do I remember correctly you’re now living in SD north county? Assume you and son have been to the Midway?

Yes, we moved to Solana Beach and go to the Midway regularly. It’s a beautiful monument to the men & women who fought for our freedoms. Almost as nice as the Intrepid in NYC.

Any recs on an outdoor lunch, preferably east of Van Ness and not as far from downtown as the mission.

The Holbrook House has a nice patio area and the food is pretty good. Not sure if too far from where you are looking.

Kin Khao is near Union Square and is pretty good

Kokkari is closer to the Embarcadero, but also good.

Verjus is right across from the Transamerica Pyramid and is great + good wine list. Cotogna is a little farther up north and also good.

Perbacco is in the middle of downtown and is solid (though not as good as the above)

Cotogna would be an excellent choice. I’d also suggest Coqueta.

Kin Khao, Verjus, and Kokkari don’t have outdoor seating.

Cotogna’s outdoor seating is meh, kind of cramped along the sidewalk. Not a ton of car or foot traffic there, but it’s still not like a nice patio setting. The indoor space is quite open and airy.

whoops, read the post too quickly.

Hog Island Oyster Bar in the Ferry Building has a wonderful view of the Bay Bridge when seated outdoors.

Contrary to what Alan is saying, Cotogna has some of the best outdoor seating in SF. As long as you sit in the parklet and not on the actual sidewalk
I actually find the indoor seating much more cramped…

I was going to say the same thing. I find Catogna’s outdoor seating (at least in the parklet) to be outstanding—especially after the sun goes down.

You guys have low standards. Or maybe it’s changed since I’ve been there, a few years.

I would rely on Andy’s judgment :wine_glass:

No openings to Cotogna for 8/1 but good to know for the future. Can you request the parklet in advance?

Hog Island is a bit of a zoo at lunch as they don’t take reservations, but thanks for the suggestion.

Terrene used to be our outdoor go to, but last time they closed the patio even though we had called to confirm outside seating an hour before arrival. So they are on our 86 list.

My non foodie meat and potato’s buddy suggested Waterbar. Great views but as far as I can tell, mains are meh (source: Infauation)

What about La Mar?

I’ll mention a neighborhood favorite, a little south in Dogpatch: Piccino. Every bit as good as Cotogna, and you won’t have any trouble getting a reservation. Plus there’s a tiny, but excellent wine shop next door.

I liked Piccinno. They have outdoor at lunch ? (didn’t notice).

Is parking possible? My friend’s driving in from Marin.

They do have some outdoor tables. It can get a little breezy there, just never know. Inside is pretty open feeling, unless you just have to be outside for some reason. Once in a while I’ve had to hunt for parking, but usually you can find something within a couple blocks. Nothing as bad as central SF.
