Eating and Drinking in San Francisco

Yes, we have to be outside. Otherwise lunch is easy.

I like La Mar. It’s not amazing, but it’s pretty decent for a lunch option. Next door is Bon Delire, which is pretty good if you like Paris-style bistro food. I think they have outdoor seating.

Here’s the street view outside piccino, actually pretty nice, protected from the wind

Just returned from The Morris’ once-a-month Poulet Frites lunch. AYCE salads (3-4) and pates/salumi (all made in-house, I’m guessing 8 or 9). Served buffet style.

When you’re ready, you let them know to bring poulet and fries. Accompanying the chicken is a dry madeira/mushroom sauce.

Dessert is also AYCE served buffet-style. Cheeses, chocolate pot de creme, make-your-own strawberry shortcake with mini olive oil cakes, and their famous buckwheat doughnuts with creme anglaise. The doughnuts were stellar. Cinnamon/cardamom spice.

You have your table for the duration, they don’t rush you.

$75/person. So worth it.

I’ll be in SF next week. Has anyone been to Key Klub?

The Morris has just opened reservations for their next Poulet Frites lunch, August 23rd. @Alan_Rath, pm me.

I opted for inside because I thought Sheryl would be more comfortable. I know there are heat lamps outside. As it will be our first time there do you have a recommendation, Larry?

Not sure what you mean by recommend. The food menu is predetermined. Corkage is $50. However, the fee is waived if you buy a bottle on their list. When my wife and I went, we did just that with our friends. We figured that’s $100 (if we brought 2 bottles) that could be used for the list.

If you meant inside or outside, we were comfortable outside. Also, it’s quieter, much easier to converse.

Yes, my question was regarding inside vs. outside. Thanks for your answer. :+1:

Ok so…

Carabao is a new ā€˜upscale’ Filipino restaurant in Napa.
Fun place, very very busy.

It is interesting food, which includes some classics like KareKare and Sisig…the food itself was good, not great. Is it worth a try? Yes, for sure, if you happen to be in the area, but not worth a trip up just for them.

Given the pedigree, formerly at French Laundry, I expected more…and maybe that’s unfair.
I would say it’s similar to Abaca in SF as far as quality.

Thanks! I live in Napa so I’ll definitely head there, but likely when the hype dies down a bit

We have a weekend in September planned (first time since pre-pandemic) and have opera tickets one night. Our go-to pre-opera restaurant has always been Rich Table. There doesn’t seem to have been much discussion here about it anytime recently. The menu looks pretty similar to past visits. Does anybody know if anything has changed or if it’s still as good as always?

I’m also curious about Akiko’s. I know Sarah had a very mediocre experience recently. Anybody have a different experience since they moved?

Welcome - things in the city are feeling very buzzy these days!

Rich table was delicious last time I went (~6 months ago). My biggest gripe with the restaurant is the wine list - values few and far between - but this is easily solved by BYOB.

I’d also recommend you try Kitchen Istanbul while you are here. Amazing wine program and the menu was just revamped.

Truett, did you make it? Forgot to look for you!

I’m stuffed, probably won’t eat rest of the weekend lol
