Need to get back there. I really loved my first meal.

Ok here is a big one for me. I finally hit 4 Charles, Admittedly I did not think it was my type of place. Well we had an incredible time, the food was very good and the hospitality was off the charts! I ordered a splurge type bottle and when I tasted it I immediately realized it was off / dead. My heart sunk as I did not want my first visit to start off rejecting a bottle of wine. I asked the somm to give it a try and he quickly agreed with me and took the bottle away and said even if he did not agree their policy is to take back rejected bottles. One of the most professional and pleasant exchanges with a somm I have ever had. I should add that he might have been the GM or Floor Mgr it did not matter he definitely knew wine.

Absolutely wonderful overall experience and we intend on going back.

Viktor already posted. I found it to be a fascinating article. Explains a lot…

Rule of Thirds is my go to restaurant if I need a restaurant on short notice for a large group. Last night at 5:30 I realized I needed a reservation for 6 people at 7:00 in that area so I called, someone actually picked up the phone, and BOOM we were in. I have always liked the food but last night it was on an entirely higher level. The 3 course duck dish was absolutely wonderful. The kitchen sent out a few dishes - the Waygu tartare and caviar custard dishes were extraordinary. All of the staple Izakaya dishes were perfect. Not sure what their corkage policy is but I do believe they have one. The wine section of the menu is small but the Sake list is one of the best in the city. Also the price was incredibly reasonable.

@Robert_Dentice mind if I ask how you snagged the reservation? 4 Charles has been my account for 11 months now and, while I’ve been able to start establishing a rapport with the GM, a reservation has proven to be quite elusive so far.

Chrissy’s is just so damn good. Went today for the French Onion special pie.

We had an incredible meal at Café Carmellini in NYC over the summer. With the quality of food and service, easily one of the meals of the year!

Is anyone here going to the Pujol pop-up happening downtown over the next two weeks?

What other restaurants are around Chambers?

Off the top of my head, Frenchette, One White Street, and Au Cheval are all within 15 minutes walk from Chambers.

Crown Shy, Terroir, Farra/Atera and a few others…

Nothing within 3 blocks if that’s what you’re thinking. A wine bar called Freddy’s just opened a couple doors up. I was at launch, but haven’t been since open.

Thanks, I’m reserving Noortwyck, Chambers, and leaning towards Frenchette.

Also Forgione. And you probably don’t want Odeon if you’re in a hyper foodie mode, but if you were in the mood to relive the past.

Kind of surprised to hear Forgione is still going. Not that it was bad, just that that’s been a long run for a place that I don’t hear much about these days.

+1 for Atera, one of my fav restaurants in the city

Had a quick dinner with my wife and daughter at Stretch Pizza after work. The pizza is flat out great! I had heard good things, but I was thrilled that it not only lived up to the reputation, but greatly exceeded it. We had a pepperoni pizza and shared the delicious potato chip salad and the meatballs. Bonus was that Chef Wylie was in the house and we chatted for a while. He was charming and a bit surprised when we told him about our adventures at WD-50.

I just looked at the 4 Charles menu. Is this their menu in 2029? Even by NYC standards, it’s $$$$.

I went to a private dinner there a few weeks ago, and didn’t pay. It was spectacular. Its hard to be wowed these days. The food was great, but the service, ambience was just level up. It wasn’t 3 star michelin or whatever. Just a special place that gets it right.

What I know some folks do is order for pickup. I remember laughing about $25 burgers in NY 8 years ago. $50 may just be the new $25 burger .
