Gonna be hard pressed to find a good restaurant without corkage.
Finding a no-corkage place wasnāt in the equation. $30-35 is totally fine. $75 is not.
Itās fine. IMO their tsukemen is better than their ramen, but then youād be better served going to Tsujita
Contact HH. They may work with you on corkage if you go mid-week. I was there Friday and the food was popping. So freakinā good.
Weād be going to HH either Friday or Saturday. The only issue is weāll be 6 people and they donāt take reservations. However, we probably wonāt be going until 8 as our LA friend canāt make it until then. Iām going to call and see if thatāll work or not. Iām not keen on waiting more than 30 minutes for a table.
If you get there about 7:30, you can put your name in ahead of friendās arrival. You can byob or have a cocktail while waiting.
Bicyclette waives if you buy a bottle from their list (same policy as Republique)
My issue with them is itās nothing more than a bistro with a wine list commensurate with that level of dining. At $75, they need
to have a much more extensive list that they spent a lot of time and money in creating. Iāve only paid that amount once at
Acquerello in SF. Sure, Iād prefer to pay less, but that restaurant has certainly earned the right, IMO, to charge that.
Weāre coming to LA with 2+ cases and virtually all the wines will have some age on them. At just about every other place Iāve checked,
weād drop $100-110 corkage for 3 bottles (the current plan, given 5 diners).
Restaurants in LA charge corkage?!
Had a whirlwind 3 days in LA.
Destroyer - Ate there twice. My favorite food in LA along with Anajak. It is an all day outdoor casual place. You can bring wine and glasses.
La Morra Pizza - New Pizza spot opened by a couple of NYC restaurant alums (Estela, Mission Chinese). They are currently only doing take out and sidewalk service. I was in a bind trying to find a place for somewhere between 14-20 people on a Saturday night where we could bring wine. They graciously offered to open the restaurant and give us their private roof deck room. Worked perfect. Pizza is very good and they also have wings.
Anajak - WOW! WOW! They did an amazing job. Love this place more and more every time I go.
We were at Destroyer Saturday. I love their caramelized chickpea bowl.
Every month I feel like Justin learns a little bit more and it shows in his food. Too bad tomato season is almost over, he made me a tomato larb once that blew my mind.
I can see that. I donāt go as frequently as you but I have seen the evolution in the four times that I have went. And every time I canāt wait to go back. We also drank some good wines! I would really like to do one of my Rieslingstudy events there!
Was in town to move daughter in to dorms at UCLA⦠kickass meal at Mirame, which judging by empty tables is under-appreciated in Beverly Hills. They managed to make a fairly simple tomato salad into a mindblowing punch of intricate flavors. Mezcal selection is also very good. AOC Brentwood was honestly a bit of a letdown. Nothing bad, but nothing particularly exciting. Their wine list is similar, fine, nothing too exciting (at least at reasonable prices), and they tend to serve their whites way too cold (same as the other AOC). Lunch down in Manhattan Beach at Fishing w Dynamite, which is always fun and good, glad to see theyāve been able to put together a really nice outdoor space along the street.
One of the highlights of the trip of course was the trek out to SoilPimp+GrooveMerchant+RappCats popup to pick up some vinyl and bask in the riesling-glow of Robert and crew. Lucky timing to be able to get out there and taste a Keller scheurebe among other delights.
Thanks so much for coming! We went through much more wine than expected on Saturday but glad you got to try some good wines. Working on a Atlanta rieslingstudy event.
Never heard of Mirame. I will have to check it out.
Not food related, but just wanted to say that it was great to meet you Brad and Robert. The wife, baby, and I all loved the Riesling study and that Keller Scheurebe was awesome!
Thanks so much for coming! We went through over 50 bottles of Riesling over two days.
We will be in town Nov 4 -5/ off the Bora Bora-- leaving mid night on 5th/ staying in West Hollywood @ Roosevelt.
Suggestions for dining / friday lunch⦠We dig Sushi/ beef and Mexican with real margarites . Probably casual/ 6 of us.
If you can get it - Sushi Ginza Onodera is in Wehoish and it prob the best sushiya in LA
Business dinner at SM Water Grill last night. The cocktails and oysters were the only think worthy of the price tag. The salmon I ordered and asked if medium rare, was OK, was over cooked all the way through. My partnerās spot prawns were also over done. Iāve similar, meh experiences at the downtown location. Prices are pretty high. At their prices, execution should be at the very least correct. YMMV
