Eating and Drinking in Los Angeles

Will try to come if I can get back from work trip in time.

The Water Grill has changed its corkage policy. In January I made a reservation for Sunday after calling the restaurant and confirming there was still no charge for corkage, a policy that resulted in many dinners there over the years. Yesterday I called to confirm the reservation and learned that there is still no corkage for the first bottle, but $50 per bottle for all subsequent bottles. I cancelled my reservation.

anyone from the west side planning to venture out to robert’s riesling study?

Hope to.

looks like i may be around and am wondering how bad traffic will be as someone not very familiar with trekking cross town

Fridays are difficult. Thursdays are worse.

Oh, you know it’ll be horrible. I feel your pain though, as we are planning on coming from Woodland Hills.

I’m hoping for some suggestions for someplace for dinner on a Thursday night near LAX. We arrive at 8:20pm. Staying near LAX, then departing on another flight the next day.

How far away from LAX are you willing to go? Fishing with Dynamite is reasonably close to LAX. If you’re willing to go up to Venice or Santa Monica it opens up a lot more options.

It’s more about the time. I figure by the time we dump our bags at a hotel, it will be close to 9pm.

Looks like a late dinner, 9pm or so, best to check availability but close by LAX are Arya Thai, James Enoteca and Tomat. Other options further away.

Tsujita annex and other places on sawtelle are open until 10 (thought it used to be later) but could be a good option.
Fishing with dynamite is open until 930 and is closer.

I agree with both Ayara Thai and Jame Enoteca. Both close pretty early (and Coni even earlier). If those aren’t interesting to Todd, I’d suggest Felix or Gjelina on Abbot Kinney (DINING — Abbot Kinney Boulevard)

Yeah gjelina is open until 1030, but at least used to be somewhat hard to get into, maybe not that late at night though.

If you are considering going up to Venice, RVR is delightful and open later than some of these places. You can get your isakaya vibe on early.

Looking forward to being there!! Looks like no rsvp needed. Thank you!

Playa Provisions is very close to LAX.

2nd the Fishing With Dynamite rec., but it’s a bit further away.

I think where you are staying (north or south)relative to LAX makes a difference.

At that hour, I don’t think Venice is materially further if you are staying north of lax (like Culver City by the 405).

went to citrin to try their happy hour. $11 pours of very decent wine, many of the signature dishes from the main menu made in smaller portions ranging from $14-$25. everything i tried was lovely. unfortunately despite a completely packed bar, the restaurant appeared empty aside from one or two tables. it was unusual that one group even byob’d some rather high end bottles and decided to reside at the bar.
