A few months back a group of work colleagues had dinner at Manzo in Eataly New York. Great meal that my boss still talks about.
We’re going to be in Chicago later this week and hotel is a block from Eataly. Since I’m often the “go to” for restaurant ideas, thought I’d have a sure hit if I could repeat the experience. However, I’m not seeing a comparable restaurant on the Chicago Eataly web site. I guess La Carne looks closest, but still doesn’t appear as high-end nor the menu as broad-ranging as Manzo was. Anyone with first hand experience and advice? TIA
The “high end” restaurant at Eataly Chicago is Baffo. I haven’t been there, and among my friends, no one really talks about it. Its not on the radar, as far as I know, among at least my wine/food friends, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t great. Many of us like RPM Italian…if you’re interested in trying that, PM me, but probably Eataly’s Baffo is very good…just haven’t been and don’t know anyone who’s gone.
Thanks Wilfred. Weirdest thing, I swear that restaurant’s logo was not on the list when I looked via iPhone. But on PC, it’s there big as life.
Ate at Baffo a couple of weeks after it opened. My most enduring memory of the experience was the cost. I was unimpressed with the food Maybe it has matured as a restaurant since then
How far are you willing to travel and are you set on Italian?
You’re probably not too far from Spiaggia, which is high end Italian and probably not more than a few blocks away. Haven’t eaten there in a few years, but the food is very good.
Cicchetti is new and probably a bit further from your hotel.
Yes. They also have private rooms, though I’ve never been.
Spiaggia is great and one of the best Italian restaurants in the nation.
I’d avoid Cicchetti and opt for Nico Osteria. Great team there.
Also very close to you is David Burke’s Primehouse, which is a good place for high end business dinners.
I ended up lucking into a same-day reservation at The Girl and the Goat. Turley Cinsault and Anaba Mourvedre were the night’s bottles. Was a great experience that went on a long time, but didn’t feel that way at all.
