Dugat-Py, Groffier, Sorrel

Simon Bize Savigny-les-Beaune “Aux Grands Liards” 2018

Sweet annd sour, quite dark fruit but clean and fruit-driven with nice grip in the mouth and good length, lightly spiced and good balance in the finish. Nice elegance for the vintage, 91 points

Dugat-Py Monthelie “Tres Vieilles Vignes” 2022

Red berries, redcurrants and raspberries, easygoing and elegant, sweet flowers. Very elegant and clean on the palate, with fruit stones and great length, simply delicious Pinot. Fresh and delicate. 93 p

Dugat-Py Pommard “La Levriere Tres Vieilles Vignes» 2022

Noticeable structure and tannins in this one with darker berries, a bit rough and firm in the structure, would benefit from more time (all the other wines were excellent to drink now). 92 p

Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin “Vieilles Vignes» 2022

Lovely, concentrated fruit with deep red berry notes on the nose, cherries, a lightly spiced touch and smooth underlying tannins, meaty but still ultra-elegant with great length. Long and firm finish, persistent finish. 94+ points

Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin “Cuvee Coeur du Roy Tres Vieilles Vignes” 2022

Incredibly flattering nose, garden flowers and beautiful pure berry fruit. Pinot doesn’t get more classic than this. Great length and lovely finish, refined elegance. Nice firmness, but the tannins are almost imperceptible. 95 p

Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny PC “Sentiers” 2023

Intense wine, dark garden berries, spices, forest and undergrowth. Deep and complex nose, hint of strawberries. Some fruity sweetness, long, intense and complex finish. Fabulous wine. 95 p

Marc Sorrell Hermitage “Le Greal” 2022

Dark and compact nose with leather and spice. Intense and firm, lovely fruit with great length, long and focused. Clearly tannic but beautiful overlying fruit, focused finish with great balance, a bit of camphor and significant freshness. 94+ p

It seems from both your report and your photographs that reports of a sea-change at Dugat-Py are not exaggerated, they used to be the most immovable of objects.

I agree with Tom-Blach totally regarding my No. 1 preferred producer Dugat-Py. Sadly their wines are hard to get in Quebec, Canada…

22/23/24 Dugat py are stunning wines

Maritine’s writeup ( Dugat-Py – Martines Wines ) on the domaine alludes to the shift to less extracted style, which appears to have been a gradual transition since Luic is driving it and started with the domaine in 1996. I have some older bottles from 1996, 2001, and 2002 that I continue to wait for.

What you describe and picture looks intriguing to me.

Cheers,
fred
