Droin, 2, 3 O’clock, Chablis O’clock, Rock

The 2010 Jean Paul & Benoit Droin Droin Chablis Les Clos rocks. It’s full of limestone, river pebbles, shale and flint. There’s also a big squeeze of orange, grapefruit and lemon. It is rich and textural with some citrus blossom nuance. The finish is loaded with chalk and it has such brilliant precision and cool rock mineral detail.

Maybe my dumb luck, but I have several '04 Les Clos and so far not a single pm.

I had their '00 Grenouilles about a year ago and it probably had been a good wine but was by then halfway oxidized; I have no idea why I bought it in the first place considering their disastrous '96s; triumph of hope over experience, I guess.

Such a shame - Droin made some dynamite wines, back in the day.

Nathan, their wines from 1996 that I tried within a few years of release were indeed very good; excellent juice went into the bottle, they just all went wrong for some reason.
