Will be staying at Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort for a week. Any tips and suggestions at this resort? Does anyone have recommendations for activities near the resort? Will have young kids with us. Thinking Of renting a car to get around. Would love suggestions on snorkeling, scuba, maybe catamaran, interaction with dolphins for the kids.
I haven’t stayed here, but do know Dreams and we’re just back from a week in Tulum. If you’re not a member already - preferred club is worth it for the better beach experience and upgraded bar.
Snorkeling & scuba according to a diver I met who lives in Playa can be good where you are vs. other spots in & around Cancun but Sargassum has made land now, so depending on currents & wind, visibility may be crap. I would not rent a car. Taxi or Colectivo. Most of the dolphin experiences we’ve seen make me sad, but then our kids are older, so there’s a bit less of that pure joy/excitement for that sort of thing.
If leaving the resort, I’d certainly visit 1 or 2 Cenote’s to the south of you.
I’ve had a glass or two of the cheap Chilean wines which are included, but we just drink cocktails or Dos Equis while in Mexico. Hyatt spoofs the wine prices beyond the pale. I mean, hysterically. Last time at Dreams, I maybe saw one or two couples the entire week actually upgrading by buying a bottle (Caymus?). Some of the food is surprisingly good, but the situation doesn’t scream - I need to drink wine after a day in the sun/water.
Enjoy.
Dangerous? No, not in Quintana Roo. Unless I was there longer term, I just wouldn’t bother with the hassle of renting and figuring out where we’re going. It’s a vacation and for a few bucks more, why not have someone else manage transport? If you know where you’re going, the Colectivo’s are literally a few pesos per trip.
Our spanish sucks, so if anything did happen on our own, I don’t want to rely on google translate and a smile, that’s all. BTW - I love the little cars the Mexican market has. So, unlike the rest of N.A, apart from the resort VIP Escalades that litter HWY 307 along the coast.
