My father-in-law found a signed double magnum of 1985 Masson Cabernet. Looks like the fill level is perfectly fine, and it was sealed in wax. Unfortunately, it wasn’t properly stored; it was in the back of the closet in their house in Aptos CA.
I found one tasting note from 2006. Is there a chance this is still drinkable? If not, any thoughts on what to do with it? Should we donate it as a decorative item? Pour it down the drain?
Someone you know is turning 40 this year and would get a big kick out of opening this wine at a party and maybe turning the bottle into a lamp or something.

Only one way to find out if it is indeed drinkable.
Have a backup plan just in case it is not. Could be a good Coravin project too.

40?
Is this Paul Masson? Can you read the signature?
In any case, I heard that Orson Welles liked it:

You could try shining a flashlight through it. The closer it is to deep red the better. The closer to orange it gets, the less likely it will be good.
