Don't Drink Wine Tonight! It's a "Root Day"!

According to this article on Chow, which discusses an iPhone app based on the biodynamic calendar, wines appear closed on so-called “root days” and show much better on “flower days.”

The good news?

Tomorrow through Saturday are all “flower days.”

OK, I loaded the app. It was free and I am bored waiting for my daughter to get out of gymnastics. Good news is that starting at 4:00 ( not sure what time zone) today it became a flower day. I thought my wine tasted good tonight. I don’t see where you can see days in the future without buying the book. What will they think of next. Most people look at my iPad and can’t believe how much is wine related. I can’t wait until they see this app. I can just imagine the comments.

Nothing but potatoes and root beer for me today. I can’t remember which winemaker it was, but about 5 years ago or so at the “other place” he commented on how they never taste barrel samples on root days.

Hopefully, a Martini is proper for a Root Day!

As long as it’s a Vodka Martini.

Hey, I’m bottling my Pinots on a Flower day! Woo Hoo. That has to be good…right?

I’m a believer. M&M Thun calender has been spooky accurate.

One thing to know about the Wine Tonight app - Since the Thun calendar is driven by the stars and planets overhead, it is different depending on where you are. So if this app gives you the calendar without regard to location (I think it gives the answer for the UK), it is not accurate at all for the US. This makes observed “accuracy” of the calendar based on this app highly suspect.

I like a lot of things about BD (mostly the restrictions and gentleness) but have never been able to wrap my mind around the calendar. Meanwhile, there is no doubt that wine changes daily (particularly in barrel) so I hope we have a good explanation at some point.

FYI: No Biodynamic Calendar app for Android; at least not that I could find.

Whew… that must explain how a range of mature Bordeaux showed so well Wednesday evening in Fort Worth, Texas, USA.
