we won’t be back until 09/06.
scarecrow tasting anyone?
Any details at all?
Is this an outgrowth of the conversation with Marc about going to a no-locker set up, like NJ/NY?
I hope that is not what happens, Carla. When I lived in NYC I stored my wine at a different facility with a no-locker set up, and even though they paid close attention to my requests and generally did a good job fulfilling them, it was a pain in the ass to pull bottles on short notice. One of the things I most like about having a bunch of lockers at Domaine DC that I have organized myself and can access at (almost) any time is the convenience of going to grab a bottle myself whenever I please.
im with Dr Jura on this one.
+1
I just recall Marc floating the idea a few weeks ago. It seems like an odd 180 after finally putting in all the new lockers.
As has been repeatedly said, “DC is not like the rest”. And don’t we know it!

Tubes make it even easier. But when you have 22 lockers like Dr. Jura, that would be some serious storage inefficiencies
Can someone explain the “no locker” system?
By the way, I was there yesterday afternoon and the place is starting to look back to normal again. They’ve really cleaned it up well. And also great to see Drew again, if only temporarily.
anyone interested in bubblies and japanese food?

Sounds terrible. Might require an infusion of truffle cheese.
When were you thinking?
N.
Likely interested - date dependent.

we could be game for this.
You guys can stumble into MacArthurs and then stumble even more across the street to Makoto. Fantastic plan!
Can someone explain the “no locker” system?
I am not sure what Marc was considering specifically because I was not there for the discussion, but the NYC storage facility I used before moving to DC had a simple system: a big warehouse with no lockers in it. All wines are on racks/shelving accessible to anyone. Therefore, no one not employed by the facility has access to the warehouse…ever. All receipt, inventory, organization, and removal of wine would be performed by a facility employee for each and every customer. Requests to pull wine typically require 24 hours notice minimum, more during holiday weekends and other peak times. And you would need to pick up the wines during business hours (or in NYC, there was delivery in a temperature-controlled van, for a hefty fee each time of course).
It’s a fine system for the wines you want to put away for years while they mature. It’s a terrible system for anything you want to drink soon, whether that is to restock the inventory you have at home, pick up a bottle on your way to a wine dinner or a friend’s place, or stop in to drink at bottle in the lounge at Domaine.
me thinks that dr jura is just scared that someone will mistakenly give away those bottles of wine he has with the lady touching herself on the label.
I keep those at home for obvious reasons.
I keep those at home for obvious reasons.
Because you’re worried I would take them.
