2012 La Tourtine is probably just getting great! Maybe the larger format is slowing development down a bit? but a good bet to take and hey - one way to find out
2020 Cabassaou is probably not a great bet. I’d expect this to either be real shut down or really tannic. The youngest I’ve had this is 6years old and that felt like infanticide. If you’re not seeing any other reds that fit the bill - we’re short on rose; that could be an easier grab.
–updated the list with current attendees, bottles, and menu plan–
I am having some trouble on the 2020 BANDOL ROSE DOMAINE TEMPIER. Purchased from NY Wine warehouse and they were supposed to deliver it last Friday to Julie’s office, but they did not and have not responded to my calls or emails yet.
If anyone knows someone there, or a better way to get in touch with them, please let me know. My first purchase with them. I am looking for another source/option now.
Please - stand your reds up tonight! These can throw a lot of sediment.
I plan to double decant mine about 1.5/2 hrs prior, which I find to be a good rule of thumb for these. If you can do that, please do, if not, will have decanters here.
This was awesome! Thanks gavin for organizing and being such a gracious host, and thanks everyone for bringing yourselves…and such amazing wines. Will post pix soon.
No cogent notes at scale alas.
FWIW the desert wines I brought were
Paul Jaboulet Aine - Muscat Beaumes de Venise Le Chant des Griolles 2019
Mas de Cadenet Vin Cuit de Provence NV
The 1990 Tempier la tourtine was perfectly balanced - a somewhat shy nose, but silky, complex, integrated tannins, and almost ethereal - I ran out of adjectives…, and WOTN for me.
