Domaine de la Cote 2020 Offer

You can backfill DdlC Memorious for the price of the estate.

Seems like for red wine scores, Pinot Noir Sous le Chêne and Pinot Noir La Côte consistently rank the best.

Does that track with others tasting experience?

I have never tried DDLC before, but was going to get a few magnums in this offering as friends have highly recommended
Thanks

Great points - and with yields like that, making magnums and making them ‘spedial’ makes a great deal of sense.

Next time you are up, hit me up - I’m next to Dragonette’s space in Los Olivos and a few doors down from Holus Bolus - I ADORE Amy and Peter!!!

Cheers

Thx Larry! Appreciate it and kudos to you for your approach

haven’t tasted sous le chene because it’s so rare, but la cote feels like a ripe burgundy year to me with hella structure. Bloom’s field is lovely with an aging horizon of 20+ years , memorious is the most floral, and estate is nice. They are very savory and stemmy imo so consider that in mind.

Super helpful notes, thanks @KhaN

I never see their older vintages on the wine platforms I buy from (klwines etc), so haven’t been able to try. I will just have to buy and age myself. (Part of that is I live abroad, so hard for me to buy from auctions, where they may be more common).

There are retails for backvintage so you can always try to grab one. And I’ve seen some discount already, I’m not super rushed to buy more widely available bottles but I will try to grab the Sous Le Chêne and the La Côte. Funnily the Estate is less available than Bloom’s Field and Memorious on 2nd market.

I have very little use for magnums so sadly I passed. First time in years for this winery, but honestly I just don’t love large format wines. Sounds crazy to many, I know.

They pop up on K&L auctions occasionally. You can set an alert and they will email you if something is available.

100% agree with this. Sous La Chene is built to age the longest and really needs time to integrate unless you like a super savory, crunchy style. Really comes into its own, but needs 10 years IMO.

Had a 2016 La Cote 2 weekends ago. It still needed a good 1.5 - 2 hour decant before it started to show its greatness. Last glass was the best.

In general, these wines have a lot of fruit, but are dominated by the whole cluster/acid early. I have seen multiple reviews say that they don’t know if the wine has enough fruit. I have never found that to be the case. They just need time. I had a 2014 Blooms Field late last year that I thought might be over the hill with faded fruit. I decanted half a bottle. Came back for the last glass nearly 3 hours later and voila!

That SLC mag will be my 50th bday drink at that rate lmao.

Great comments, thanks all

Email went out. The # of bottles are hella limited this year while 2023 was BOUNTIFUL.

$249 memorious
$299 bloom’s field
$399 la côte
$80 ddlc estate.

I’ll pass, at this premium I can drink 1er burg instead.

I went in on the La Cote Magnum and 2 DDLC bundle. Memories already sold out.

I’ll ask for your TN in 30 years =))

First time purchasing direcly from DDLC. Wanted the SLD but did not have the option to purchase or wishlist. Picked up an LC instead.

Did anyone here have the option to buy or wishlist the SLC?

Memorious was sold out by the time I opened up my allocation at 9:01am (Pacific)

I didn’t get SLC neither, but I feel like they would offer it to their biggest clients first. Same thing for me with Memorious.

I logged on an hour after the email was sent, only La Cote and Bloom’s Field left, got one of each, all others already sold out. Think the whole thing was done in seven hours

Glad to hear it. Bold choice to bottle only magnums. I really have no place to store those and rarely purchase, but I love these wines and was going to support them.
