Hey everyone, the title pretty much says it all. I figured I’d pit these wines against each other for comparisons since they are the respective Prestige Cuvées from the two largest Producers in Champagne. I understand this is a very open-ended question, so interpret it however you’d like. [popcorn.gif]

Love La Grande Dame but voted Dom as I feel it has been more consistent

I had a '90 La Grande Dame last weekend. Holy smokes was it good! Sadly my first experience with some aged Champagne. Clearly I’ve been missing out.

I was fortunate enough to score a ‘93 La Grande Dame at a local mom n’ pop for $80 last month. A friend and I split it a few weeks ago and were pleasantly surprised with how well it held up for sitting on a room temp store shelf for god knows how many years. The aforementioned store also had 8 bottles of '96 Perrier-Jouët Fleur de Champagne that I happily snatched up for $80 each. I’m usually not a “high roller” when it comes to Champagne but when I can find mature prestige cuvées at a fraction of fair market price I jump.

Voted La Grand Dame. I’ve only ever had one champagne that ever wowed me (several bottle of Dom didn’t) and it was a '90s La Grande Dame a good friend poured me to celebrate a promotion.

90 La Grande Dame - one impressive bottle

I refuse to vote because a producer is more than the top wine  Honestly DP is usually better but VCP has the better rose version. But the wines are also quite different and I think comparing their quality is less important than appreciating their character.

+1

But I love Dom equally well.

With possible exceptions of the 1990 and 2004, DP dominates LGD in my opinion.

Not enough info for me; are you comparing all DP vintages and Rose to VC LGD. IMO, with this criteria, the odds are overwhelmingly in favor of Dom…

+1 add in the sheer number of
bottles and it is doubly impressive.

The Only Vintage of LGD that I have had that has been close to the quality of Dom is 90 which is fabulous but again the Dom 90 is just still an inch better imo!
