Dogfish Bitches Brew?

Seen it around forever and grabbed one for a goof. How is this? What’s it taste like?

Never lasts long at my local beer shops. It is a big A55 dark beer. Only had it once and enjoyed it plenty. would buy again

Non- hoppy Imperial Stout. The first batch a couple of years ago was the best, last years was not as good (pretty sweet) I haven’t had this years yet, but I did pick one up. It’s a good beer if you like the style of non-bourbon barrel aged Imperial Stouts.

If I like Guinness Foreign Extra Stout or Left Hand Milk Stout (I like this but I wouldn’t want anything sweeter), am I gonna dig it?

I would think if you liked Left Hand you’ll like this, similar sweetness level, but amped up with the roasted malt and abv. It’s definitely a sipper and has an interesting bit of honey on the finish. It’s a real creamy beer. If you like black licorice you’ll love it.

You had me at black licorice

I like this beer a lot … but I wouldn’t put it anything near Left Hand’s Milk Stout (which I love).

But you should certainly try this beer.

It’s going to depend on how the current batch is showing. I’ve had it be sweeter or drier at different times with different batches. The last one I had was less sweet than Left Hand Milk Stout. What I find with the Bitches Brew consistently is that there’s a lot of complexity, and it’s not the same profile I find in any other type of stout. The recent, drier batch I had was fairly earthy, in a red wine kind of way. I loved it, but it was more of a thinker than a guzzler.

I’ve only had one bottle but here’s my review from Beeradvocate

2011 bottling. 750ml bottle poured into a pint glass.
A: Pitch black with a 1.5 finger mocha colored head that lingers
S: Gorgeous coffee, cream, cocoa, caramel, and roasted grain
T: More bitter cocoa and malt than coffee here, but that still comes through. Tastes a bit burnt, though that may be the bitterness.
M: Medium-bodied and lighter than I expected, some carbonation
O: Complex and makes you think about it, a great representation of a RIS.

Wow this is a sick beer. You guys hit it on the head, though I think this is much less sweet than Left Hand Milk Stout.

Creamy and laden with coffee and honey/cream/cocoa notes but balanced and quaffable for the style.

Nice, I’m glad you liked it. It’s one of those beers where I can’t think of anything else that’s made in a very similar style.

My son and I tried a bottle of this…hard to desribe…but have to say- not my thing. The finish/aftertaste was not pleasant.

It was alright but I wouldn’t pick it up again. Have you tried the Blind Lemon Jefferson yet?
