Didn’t read the study but I guess it would depend on how you consume. Vap or eaten would not alter your taste buds too much I guess, but smoking a joint will kill them. It does come back after a while. But first glass after smoking will be meh for sure.
Piggybacking on Andrew and Vincent, I think it is pretty obvious that smoking pot would make it more difficult to focus on the finer points of a wine, but disagreeing slightly with Vincent, for me, the point of fine wine is to enjoy it. If that sometimes involves a weed-influenced, less analytical approach, nothing is lost and much can be gained.
Having said that, I don’t think I’d open that 61 bdx on such an evening.
Living in Colorado I’ve had the chance to try a various # of combinations and I for one do not like to mix cannabis and wine. It appears to mess with my tastebuds.
Interestingly enough, this appears to be the first WB topic on which there has been no disagreement. Is today April 1?
I was expecting someone to claim that alcohol is actually more detrimental to one’s ability to discern subtle flavors than cannabis, essentially suggesting that wine is more likely to screw up one’s enjoyment of wine than cannabis. Think about that one for a moment…
Frankly, any kind of smoke inhaled is going to deaden your palate for a while. It might make the actually tasting more fun - but it doesn’t help the palate.
Reno, a place where you can find a motel with a velvet bed where the velvet walls are painted crimson red. You can find a little lounge open night and day, where the FBI meets the CIA. Just ask Jonathan Richman!

Wow, this is making me nostalgic for Nevada.
I don’t know how Egypt beat out Nevada for being the second term in “Bumfuk…”
Reno’s a smaller, crapper, and more plastic cousin of Vegas. I never even imagined that was possible until going there. The casinos in Reno could easily be considered some of the most depressing places in the US imo. That said Craft Wine & Beer in Reno is a good shop to load up at before heading out to Black Rock. Who doesn’t like a cheeky white burgundy out on the playa?
Ever have the munchies? You will eat anything, anything as long as it is either savory or sweet. SO I guess any riesling will be 100 pointer. Cayman 40th is a big go to wine when stoned, i would imagine.
Partnering cannabis with wine would cause hours of confusion trying to figure out what goes best with the combination.
Chocolate chip cookies
Brownies
BBQ potato chips
Jamocha Almond Fudge
All the above, together
Not to be mixed when tasting some fine complex wines, but I’d be lying if I said I did not enjoy a nice crisp white or rose with some nice homegrown aromatics on a summer’s eve. And yes, I live where it’s legal to do so.
Talk about threads I did not expect to see on WB after a long workday…
