Does anyone drink Sauvignon Blanc anymore?

We drink Sauvignon Blanc all summer - nothing better on a hot day by the pool or after a round of golf (except maybe a rose )

Warm day here on the central coast. Drinking a ‘17 Fleming - hits the spot!

Sometimes, not often. Loire and Bordeaux.

Try Kenefick Ranch’s version. Always good.

For the Loire, can’t beat Vacheron.

I had a bottle of 2017 Heitz Sauvignon Blanc [Napa] over the last 4-5 days. It’s 13.2% abv and I didn’t care for it. I found it on underripe grapefruit side, and a bit shrill.

About 40% of the still whites we drink are Sauvignon Blancs, and the vast majority of them are from New Zeland. We drink them all year 'round. Lately, mostly the 2017 Whitehaven. NZ SBs are great values, generally.

got 6 different Sancerre whites from from WTSO to try. Vintages 16-18. Everyday quaffing and party wine pricing. Isn’t 18 supposed to be killer in the Loire?

Not me.

Didn’t drink it for a long time, but came back to it. Never NZs as they seem to want to shout their aromas as loud as can be to distract from their simple one trick pony style, but even there I’ve been introduced to a favorite, Wild Ferment from Greywacke.

Other than that I think Austrian SBs are the best balance between green and refreshing and complex and powerful. Sattlerhof Kranachberg was the SB that brought me back to the grape.

I also drink a fair amount of SB from northern Italy (DpDipoli, Cant. Terlaner, Welch etc.) and Sancerre (Vacheron) and Pouilly Fumé (Bain, Daugenau).

I don’t buy it or cellar it, but will occasionally buy a bottle in a restaurant. I went through a phase when I was new to wine where I liked the grapefruit and cat pee character. Probably because it excited me that I could reliably pick it out blind. But I’m no longer a fan of SBs where those are predominant.

Pretty sure I said this earlier in the thread but this for sure. Dan’s SB is my favorite

I think I commented in this somewhere in the past, but missed it while reviewing if I did. We definitely enjoy drinking Sauvignon Blanc and appreciate it in many styles (Dagueneau, Boulay, Cotat, Patricia Green, & Vineyard 29). If we drank wine more often I’m sure our consumption would be more than what it is for this as I frequently find myself craving it during summer & fall. I’ve got one bottle of Vatan aging and this is a producer I’ve only had once or twice…and now they seem to have hit the stratosphere in pricing. So I expect that will be a bottle I’ll actually age for awhile to see what it’s like when it’s a little older.

Sauvignon blanc is our go to summer white.
Current favorites (in no particular order)

Arrow & Branch SB

Just sitting on my terrasse, friends from Germany stopped for a visit, SB 2020 from Stefan Potzinger in the glass, the regular, not the Joseph, it doesn’t get any better … and that’s a really serious wine, not just something “spritzy” on a hot day … lemon zests, minerally, elder flowers, very nice …

i’ve been going through a bunch of 2021 Allan Scott out of NZ this summer. It’s fruit forward, but not in an over extracted way. 11.99 at Costco

Just had a couple glasses last night of 2019 Lewis “Debbie’s Cuvee”…great stuff. On deck is the 2019 Spottswoode “Mary’s Block”. There are some killer high-end SBs coming out of Napa. Also, love the white-bdx style from Morlet, expensive but so tasty.

That Allan Scott is nice. I’d never heard of it before this year.

I think the Joel Gott SB hits a nice spot as a food wine.

We go through a lot of SB. NZ, CA & France. Been trying to broaden in FR and really digging the Cotat Caillottes, great bottle. I think it’s a nice bridge between the new world SB’s and the stonier Old World versions.

I certainly drink it. Gérard Boulay is the name to go for. Some of the best wines in Chavignol, but without Cotat/Vatan/Dagueneau/etc prices.

I had a bottle of Blackbird Dissonance 2015 last week. Stunning. It was firm, racy, refreshing and complex. Another winner from Aaron Pott.
