Do You fancy this 1961 Latour a Pom, or H Jayer Ech '89 ?

Is this 1961 Ch. Latour a Pomerol, a Ball(-a, -er, -ah) bottle ?

A candidate for the wine of the century, always getting perfect scores.
-It’s not an estate bottling.
-No indication of the bottler/negociant, from the pictures.
-Very Top Shoulder fill level.
-Shiny red generic capsule.

I checked the sellers other items. Its all electric connectors, and then this lonely super bottle.

The price at the moment is very low, and for many, maybe worth the gamble…

'Do You like it ?

-Soren.

Maybe it’s because I looked at it on my phone, but parts of the label look blurred out, is that correct? I would have my reservations about buying a bottle like this off of eBay. If this person did their homework and found that it was such a valuable bottle of wine, I’m not sure why they would not seek out professional assistance in selling this bottle.

Right Ian, something fishy about it all.
The label is very sharp(zoom function), no blur, only slightly coffee colored all over. No scratches or wear and tear on the edges.
Many label variants can exist. This is the blanc version, with no negociant name over the vintage. Other bottle photos with this blanc label, are to find on the net, -but that doesn’t really prove anything either.

Why not ask the seller the story? Not sure it matters but it might be interesting?

It will either be interesting or hilarious and maybe both.

Item condition:New

Fresh 1961 bordeaux!

well, it is unopened.

Sure, now

Hahaha!

Another rare eBay bottle sells in 24h.
1989 Henri Jayer, Echezeaux.
Very scruffy labels. This bottle looks older than it is, and it has seen no respect in handling. Very low fill level.
The seller has lots of rare spirits, and wines for sale. Looks like a retailer, or restaurant/bar, selling stock.
He knows the value also (€15.000).

Which one would You choose ? The '61 LaP -or the '89 HJ Ech. -If You could have it for free ?

-Soren.

Good that the seller will allow you to avoid the hassle of credit cards.

The 1961 Latour a Pomerol just sold for €516.00 (sub $600). Still room for profit…

Nice bottle Roman. That’s a known negociant bottling. (and the price will be higher.)
The Lafite Bruxelles bottling, sometimes with the black neck-band still attached.
Here the same bottling variant, note the fresh red Lafite capsule color, on both Bruxelles bottles.

And a slightly suspicious Chateau (Mise en bouteille a la propriete) bottle, note the missing “Grand Vin” in center. Could be a later release…?

-Or is this the real chateau label ?

Thanks for new pics for the collection.

Totally free? The Latour a Pomerol. It has a better chance at being drinkable wine than that Jayer which, while more probably authentic, is most assuredly coming from an abusive past.

fred

I can inform the abused Jayer '89 sold for $1,550.
It was a mean question I asked… Sorry.

Btw, new pristine 1985 H Jayer, Cros Parantoux, is up for sale. It looks great, I must admit.

Edit. The 1961 LaP from Romans Swiss link, did not sell at the minimum €850… Surprise these classics are not in high demand. Wonder why… ?

I would actually have bet on both the Two first bottles being genuine, and probably in ok condition (the Jayer can stand a serious beating, even thought the level was on the low side for such a young wine). I would be more sceptical about the '85. It looks genuine, but…

There was a UK TV show (Midsomer murders) about faking this wine maybe

They got one of those bottles [cheers.gif](the 61).

Both the Latour a Pom, and the H-Jayer are on Maureen Downeys list of 16 most counterfeited wines.
