Do-Rite Donuts - Chicago

Finally stopped by this morning after seeing a co-worker of mine bringing a box of a half a dozen donuts in for lunch a couple of times over the last couple of weeks (the donuts were all that we had for lunch).

Sampled a couple today, the “Old Fashioned” buttermilk and the maple bacon. I should preface this by saying that I am not a big sweet eater. The buttermilk, however, is awesome. I’m not sure how they make this, but it looks like they split the top of the donut after it’s risen, dip it in sugar and toss into the deep frier:

Lots of sugar in this beast, and it may have pushed me over the edge into Type-2 diabetes land, but it was worth it.

The maple bacon donut was very good. I usually find the maple glaze on these things too cloying (which was the case here), but the underlying crueller could not have been lighter with just the right tug.

I am a big fan. I also like the fact that I can grab one after court. Unlike Donut Vault, they usually dont sell out till around lunch time.

Man those looks great. I’m not a huge fan of Cake Donuts but i like the airy style in the 2nd photo.

Looks good! Reminds me of a more sane, prettier donut compared to Voodoo Donuts in Portland.

I think my pancrease started to moan when I saw that buttermilk pic.

OMG.

The buttermilk is quite good, though they do cheat a bit by frying it for a little longer and putting a heavy glaze on it.
I also enjoyed the chocolate donut, which is covered with Valrhona chocolate icing.

Is this owned by Leye ?

Yes - carved out of Petterino’s

Thanks. An old friend is the GM there. Sounds like I need to stop by and say hello.

Yes, great place. Buttermilk and chocolate glazed are the way to go IMO, the fancier ones haven’t impressed (as much).

Generally not a big donut fan. Buttermilk is one of the exceptions & that one looks marvelous.

I’m not a fan of mixing the sweet and savory myself. I did try the pistachio and Meyer lemon doughnut And thought it was delicious.
