Disparity Of Quality Of Antinori Wines.

Super Tuscans have been firing on all cylinders; not so with Chianti and Brunello. Any thoughts?

Which Chianti’s? Badia Riserva is big and structured as always, Marchese Riserva and Peppoli a little more on the modern end of spectrum but good value for the dollars, especially Marchese. Brunello still hasn’t hit the heights I’d expect the Antinori’s and Renzo to hit, but I’m sure they’ll sort out the vineyard and enology with it.

To be fair, the Tignanello and Guado al Tasso Estates that Tig, Guado and Solaia come from are unreal sites.

From what i know about their Brunello estate, the soil and microclimate is not ideal to produce traditional brunello. They are trying to make up for that with winemaking skills, but that will not be enough. As mentioned by Kris, the Solaia and Tig especially are from great pieces of land.

I think most Antinori wines, is expertly crafted, and many are great relative QPR. I like their Villa Antinori and Marchese Antinori as daily drinkers. The Tig is really good, especially recent vintages. Just had a stellar 2009 which was much better than anticipated. They achieve great balance in their wines, across pricelevels.
