Dinner with mostly Prüm + some mature Riojas and Cote Rotie etc

With good friends in Copenhagen last Saturday:

With Savoie Sausage :
Boyer-Martenot 1996 Meursault Les Tillets: Fresh lively and with a lovely feminine scent. Village Meursault with age is awesome
Bischöfliches Priesterseminar 1996 Ayler Kupp, Riesling Auslese trocken: An odd wine. More peculiar than enjoyable for me
Dauvissat 2010 Chablis 1er Cru Sechet: This is a wine with a myriad of qualities. A wine to keep in the glass all evening. Dauvissat did extremely well in 2010.

With Ulrichs homemade world class Sushi; a perfect match:
Maximin Grünhaus 2007 Maximin Grünhauser Abstberg Kabinett: Have never had a wine from Abstberg that was not great. This one is just a treat. Lacking a bit in comparison to Kabinetts from Shäfer and Prüm but the producer still is in my MSR top 5
JJ Prüm 2012 Bernkasteler Badstube Kabinett: Super. Just a notch behind Himmelreich
JJ Prüm 2012 Graacher Himmelreich Kabinett. I am being increasingly happier for this Weinberg. 2012 Kabinetts are a must-have
JJ Prüm 1990 Wehlener Klosterberg, Riesling Kabinett. This Lage is new to me. It seems that no wines has been produced recently. Off course not as expressive as the 96 Sonnenuhr.
JJ Prüm 1996 Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Riesling Kabinett: Simply put. I love the Prüm 96 wines. This one was soooo young and fresh with stuff for at least a decade more.
JJ Prüm 1996 Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Riesling Spätlese. Best German wine tonight IMO. WOW
JJ Prüm 1996 Graacher Himmelreich, Riesling Auslese. Just behind the Spätlese. Again: Himmelreich wines are so fascinating.
Willi Willems-Martin 1975 Brauneberger Juffer, Riesling Auslese. Very aromatic and in good shape. Not sure it revealed any Juffer-Terroir ,

With Stout-braised Short Ribs:
J. Vidal-Fleury 1983 Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde: Extremely aromatic and still young. A treat
Bernard Burgaud 1989 Côte Rôtie. Love the Burgaud style. His 2010 are fantastic and this one is also extremely well made. Textbook Cote Rotie
C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) 1985 Viña Real Gran Reserva. Not a vintage to brag about but the wine was surprisingly bursting with fruit and flavor. Very impressing and well tasting
C.V.N.E. (Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) 1976 Rioja Imperial Gran Reserva. Also not a fine vintage and this wine was more modest in its expression. But WOW; what a quality behind the modesty. Love these classic Riojas
Calissano 1974 Barbaresco Riserva Speciale. This was weird. Maybe it lacked air but it newer came around. Was too stern and hard on the palate to be really good. No noticeable flaws however???

With 40 month Gruyere and 24 month Comte
Jadot 2008 Clos St Jaqcues. Had this before and I was intrigued by the flavors. This one was a bit skew. Off course it was far too young
Fourrier 2007 Clos St Jaqcues. WOTN unanimously. It is in a good place right now but has the quality for a long life. It is sooo sexy and transparency and ultra light layers of smells and flavors. Very high Quality.

The German wines were opened 24 hour before and put in the wine-fridge with extended exposed area
The aged red wined were opened 6 hours before
The Meursault, Chablis and Clos St Jaques were pop and poured

Cheers Claus

Fascinating idea for me - sushi and mosel. The rice is sweet. I know you stated it was a perfect match - is it possible to put this in a few more words (which may be impossible as perfect is perfect) ?

Hi Anthony
Well for me Sushi and German Riesling with RS is nearly always a perfect match. Even more perfect when the Riesling has some maturity.
Anyway for me it is better than 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape from Magnum [snort.gif]

Wow, Claus, that’s quite a night!

Agree on the Riesling/Sushi pairing, my fave.

Kabinett and sushi is a favorite of mine as well.

Looks like some fabulous wines.

Excellent notes, Claus, and that was quite a wonderful lineup of wines!

What could be better than some mature Rioja and Kabinett! Very nice.

Thanks all for yor comments guys
Finished the Prüm-bottles yesterday evening (being open since friday)
as expected the were even more sublime.
Low alcohol - extremely high level of Trinkvergnügen
