Did anyone read Parker's latest screed?

Yeah, winning the Cold War was so typically “American” [wink.gif]

Does Bill Klapp know that Parker is complete unaware of the war between the two of them?

I wouldn’t bet on that.

Kyle, not true. It used to be waged e-mano a e-mano on the Squires board. That was back in the day when there was relative freedom of speech there, more like Putin’s Russia than the Stalinist Russia after The (Pay) Wall was erected and the tanks rolled in.

I famously told him that he did not understand Burgundy or Brunello, among other bon mots. And I was invited to lunch with him almost as many times as Tim Hanni invited me to lunch in one thread!

RMP, Jr. is very well aware of his most vocal critics on EBOB. He is quite vindictive and petty as well in how he has folks uninvited from major charitable events held annually in Napa Valley.1

Should this thread be moved to the Klapp Bashing thread. [wow.gif]

Probably some one already mentioned this, but this article is indeed an old Parker post. I guess it’s been cleaned up to become an article of merit rather than a late night rant.

Maybe he was inspired by Richard Sherman of the Seahawks. There is an eerie comparison, although Parker’s rant was slightly more eloquent.

LOL. And even Fox switched away from that!

This place often reads like Valley Girls in a schoolyard where male hormones are sold in Glassine envelopes.

I’d argue that Richard Sherman’s rant was more eloquent, but that’s just, like, my opinion, man.

One of these days Chris, you may read what is actually written rather than your thin skinned interpretation of it. As others have pointed out, I attacked the wines because I see no merit in them, not the people who drink them. You have my full permission to drink whatever you want, and I promise you, I won’t think any the worse of you.

It wasn’t more eloquent, just less bizarre.

Chris; You have it nailed! Parker was a great help to me in my earlier wine collecting days. He turned me on to numerous wonderful producers over the years. Unfortunately, most of those producers now receive stratospheric prices for their wines and I am no longer their demographic. Another unfortunate item is that Parker is so adamant that his palate is the only palate that he is totally blinded to other styles of wine making and other peoples’ preferences. That being said… [stirthepothal.gif] some of his rants have a smidgen of truth. Just as many do not enjoy “Parkerized blueberry milkshakes;” many of my wine drinking buddies (me included) hate 25 year old “hipster” sommeliers trying to shove orange, skin contact, amphora wines down our throats and then acting shocked if we do not agree. As with any subjective art form, of which, wine is one, there is a huge spectrum of “correctness” and extremism in any direction is not the proper path. [soap.gif]

Cheers! [cheers.gif]

I’ll tell you what, Mark G, I’ll drop it at this point, and I’ll take your word at face value as to what you meant in your McDonalds Blueberry Milkshake Award thread about Kosta Browne; i.e. that it wasn’t an indirect slam on people who enjoy certain wines as being suckers and score chasers. If I mistook your intent, I apologize.

I love this board, and I come here to share a love for wine and to learn more about the world of wine, not to bicker with people or bash people and sneer at their tastes in wine. But I sometimes feel that, in order to keep this board a place of open expression and diversity, rather than an echo chamber for the single point of view that is most forceful here, that we WBers need to take a turn policing ourselves and push back in certain places.

That was what I was attempting to do, for better or worse, but at this point, I’ll drop it. I’ve said my peace, for better or worse, and let’s go back to talking about the world of wine, rather than how Robert Parker and AWFEers and others attack each other over it. I’ll see y’all in some of the other theads.

Mark, if I drive a Chevy and you do nothing but talk about how horrible driving a Chevy is, do you really not see how you are indirectly commenting on my choice? You can’t be that daft because you seem like an intelligent guy.

Make sure to never have an opinion on anything then. In particular, I’d suggest you stay away from the innernets, as it may harm your psyche.

Why shouldn’t I have an opinion? And I’m not harmed at all. Just making observations and sharing opinions. Me saying that your opinion suggests X does not mean that your opinion or X offend me. Now, can we get back on topic? It’s a bit ironic that someone is faulting a person for having a polemic opinion while they are expressing an almost identical polemic opinion. Just change the adjectives and voilà! We have two peas on a proverbial pod. Fun, huh?

Beware of sarcasm also.

Wait a minute. If I’m on a car board participating in a thread about a particular Chevy, and I have had a negative experience with that exact Chevy, I’m supposed to say the Chevy is great because I might offend someone who really likes the Chevy?

Sounds like [bullshit.gif] to me.
