Diatom

Woohoo! Very excited that Diatom is back, even if in limited quantity.

“We are excited to share with you the current release 2013 from diatom. For a limited time, this vintage is being made available through the Brewer-Clifton general store and will go quickly as quantities are very limited.”

Pricing?

Cheers!

So just Chard? I assume that’s all they release?

Yes, diatom was only Chardonnay, all (except possibly this last wine) single vineyard wines from Sta Rita Hills, fermented at cool temperatures in neutral vessels (mostly stainless, I think) with inhibited malo-lactic fermentation and lees aging. Initially, the wines were labelled with the vineyard names, later they were given Japanese names even though they still came from single vineyards. I don’t think he released any 2012 wines. This 2013 is simply labeled Sta Rita Hills.

I loved the few I had. Some super high alcohol levels for white wine but they never showed for me.

BTW, Diatom is solely the project of Greg Brewer even though it may be available through BC.

I’ve enjoyed the few I’ve had – California exuberance without any residual oak. Great with scallops.
