Di Costanzo đź’Ą New Wines + Early Access + Shipping Savings

Hello, friends, let’s share some wine. We are Erin & Massimo Di Costanzo of Di Costanzo Wines. Massimo is a gifted winemaker, and my background as a sommelier, retailer and storyteller make us a mighty team of two. (well, we are four with the two kiddos)

Since Di Costanzo’s founding in 2010, Massimo and I have been making small lots of wines with a careful focus on Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa and Sonoma. In recent years, we added a small portfolio of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to our production. St. Helena, California is home, and we invite you to come and join us for a tasting some time, please.

Antonio Galloni says:

“Massimo and Erin Di Costanzo continue to make some of the most striking Cabernets in Napa Valley.”

We are honored to see our wines placed in some of the most thrilling private collections and restaurant wine programs in the Napa Valley, across the country, and abroad.

So let’s get you in on the action! Today we grant VIP Early Access & Special Pricing for our brand-new wines (our mailing list only drop is 1/30/24), a LIBRARY bottling of our fabulous DI CO Cabernet, and Discounted Shipping.

Short version: this Cabernet is a love letter to the majestic, bold, mountaintop wines that turned my head as a young sommelier. Now that we’re all grown up with our own winery, and when we get to make the rules, we got to make a serious and powerful Cabernet that still stays true to Di Costanzo’s vision of classic and elegant wines. To quote Antonio, “What a wine! Inky, dark and explosive, with grippy tannins and exceptional balance, the (Charlie Smith) 2021 is so impressive.”

• Harvested October 2nd, 2021
• 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
• 213 cases produced
• 14.5% ABV

Clean, clean, clean & pretty! A more delicate, linear expression than last year’s debut vintage DI CO Chardonnay. Keep promising folks I’m going to make this t-shirt one day, as I hear it about once a week.

Cannot overemphasize how AMAZING this newest vintage of Costa Pinot Noir is. Sta Rita Hills is a wonderland for Pinot Noir, and this year’s bottling is pure, focused and savory. We shared a bottle with family last night alongside smoked rotisserie duck and it was nothing short of magic.

I’m not in Australia but I am lucky enough to have tried two of the new wines being offered, and would like to get out my bullhorn and sandwich boards so I can walk back and forth, ringing a bell and declaiming my love for them. I’ve been a buyer of Di Costanzo since the 2012 vintage. Prior to that, I knew Erin from her work in retail, where she consistently directed me to wines I would have otherwise never heard of. I learned to trust her palate, and GOOD THING I DID.

The 2021 Di Costanzo Charlie Smith Cabernet Sauvignon is an unusual addition to the portfolio - it’s bolder, more accessible, and more of a blue-fruit wine than the other single vineyard wines that I’m familiar with. It’s not showing all its cards, but it’s not, like, an obvious wine. As I found out on day two, it still holds a lot in reserve. The key differences here are the aromas upon opening, which lean toward the tobacco and the earthy, and then this thing that happens in the finish that I thought of as chapparel, but I’ve seen in the notes called “sage,” and I wouldn’t disagree. As ever, there’s this serious structure indicating that it will evolve long past the end of civilization (okay, I guess that’s IMO). FWIW, the next day I had a 2009 Leoville Barton and felt there were some strong similarities in the profile, but I haven’t had a ton of LB, so take that with a grain of salt.

The 2022 Chardonnay is an unexpected follow up to last year’s - if the 2021 was about potential, about knowing that when it got all four legs under it and started to run, it was going to be a beast, this one is already ready. It is much less beastly, much more about finesse. As the winemaker notes say, it’s clean - it also has a length that’s mind-blowing and a subtle minerality that makes it seriously linger on your palate. Very fresh and very good. Highly recommended.

It’s been a year - I can’t even remember what day it was in the woods with the bears shitting on the pope’s hat. Or was that the one where the fish were watertight?

As ever, thank you Glen! So grateful for your choice and thoughtful words. Bullhorns and sandwich boards and bells, oh my. Yes, the Charlie is so fun, and such a different wine from our other Moon Mountain Cabernet, the Montecillo. Cousins, not brothers. But still true to our spirit, and I love that you feel that way, too. And life was made better with a glass of the '22 Chardonnay while wrangling with shipping tables and last minute housekeeping for tomorrow morning’s big show. See you all then & thank you VERY much!

Is this live now?
