Devil Proof Malbec 2021

Looks like the release is next week. I have not previously bought- what kind of release is this- a mixed pack or single bottling? Anyone have a clue on pricing?

3-bottles only, not sure if mixed or same bottle. No idea on pricing - was wondering the same thing.

I bought 2 years ago (they didn’t do a release last year because of smoke taint). $195/bottle in box of 3 plus tax and shipping. Not cheap. Just tried my first bottle though, 2019 Farrow Ranch Malbec. Absolutely devine. Best Malbec I’ve ever had. That being said…is it 2-3x better than my next favorite? Nope. I’ll think about it and see what the pricing is like this time around. I think if there is an inflation bump I’m out but otherwise would consider a 3 bottle shipment as a treat.

In particular, I’m interested in their new wine the Cima Ladera which sounds like a mix of Malbec and Cab Sav. Jesse Katz makes some of my favorite Cabs through his Aperture label and so I bet that will be an excellent wine as well.

Thanks @Noah_Hawthorne. Are they mixed 3-packs or 3 bottles of the same?

Historically, been 3 of the same. Curious about the new wine too. But suspect these will be $225-250 a bottle.

looks like I was right, $225/bottle. 3 packs only of each wine (not mixed). Tempted to try the new wine, but I’m out on the others. I stopped buying the other once they crossed $150/bottle. I got my first vintages for like $105.

yeah, I’m having a hard time pulling this trigger. If they did a mix pack, I probably would have though.

I bought a 3 pack earlier this year of the 2018 Farrow. Just did another 3 pack of 2021 Farrow. Definitely steep price and have cut back on most +$200 wines. But…

in my experience each offering differs a bit vintage to vintage. I loved Rockpile better in 2017 but Farrow better in 2018 (as did critics apparently with 3 100’s)…The new one is interesting being 65% Malbec and 35% Cab Sauv. I’ve had a wine Jesse makes that is 100% Cab Sauv from Farrow and didn’t love it. At the price though these are tough buys for me. Basically, do you want to say you have a cult wine? There are better wines out there for the price IMO and I generally love Jesse Katz wines (especially from Aperture).

I passed on the entire offering. I find it difficult to spend $225/bottle on Malbec.

Indeed. I bet these are great wines, and I spend a lot a year on wines but I hit my inflation point here. No buy at $225 a bottle plus tax and shipping. Speaking of cult wines, Saxum at $130 a bottle all in is looking like a deal haha. My shipment arrives tomorrow.

Saxum at that price is a no-brainer buy
