desire line (n): a path forged off the main trail; a path made by the one walking it.
“Once again, I was deeply impressed with Desire Lines. Cody and Emily Rasmussen source fruit from some of the most distinctive sites in northern California for their range. The wines capture the essence of place in a translucent, unadorned style I find hugely appealing. There is a sense of purity in these wines that is so attractive. ” – Antonio Galloni, Jan 2025
Hellooooooo to our beloved Berserkers on this magnanimous BD17! It’s an honor to be here for our third BerserkerDay.
Today we have two limited-edition verticals up for grabs. The four-year Evangelho vertical, from own-rooted vines planted in the 1890s, represents fully half of our family’s personal library, what we think of both as our rainy day fund and as our gift to our boys for decades to come. The Winds of Change three-pack is what we think the wine industry needs right now - delicious wines that are spectacular values, and wines with a bit of age that offer opportunities for contemplation, connection, and community. All the wines are singing right now and we’re thrilled to share them with you!

About Desire Lines + Reflections on our BD17 Offers:
Desire Lines Wine Co. is our love letter to California. We aim to make neo-classical California wines of place, imbued with grace and beauty, that are vibrant, age-worthy, and delicious. All our wines are from vineyards that we think are truly remarkable and utterly singular, which is the sole focus and mission of Desire Lines - wines that speak of a place, and a time, and a farmer, from some of California’s most iconic vineyard sites.
We are a small family-owned wine business, and Desire Lines is our passion project. The name references the path we’ve forged alongside our main trail: Cody’s day job is Director of Winemaking Operations at Bedrock Wine Co.; Emily’s is Emily Rasmussen Communications, where she consults on digital marketing and communications for several wineries in Napa and Sonoma along with her work as Executive Director of Historic Vineyard Society, a non-profit dedicated to preserving California’s historic vineyards. Our two young sons, Caleb and Drew, have begun helping out in the vineyards and winery, which is why you’ll find our business name “Rasmussen Family Wines” on every back label – it takes all of us to bring these wines to you.
You can read in-depth about all of our wines on our website (check out our old release letters on our wines page). As a tiny-production winery, we feel a personal connection with every single person on our mailing list. We truly couldn’t do this without your support and are ever grateful.
About the Evangelho Vineyard Vertical
For BD17, we’re pulling half of our library inventory of 2018-2021 Evangelho to create two dozen four-packs from the 2018 to 2021 vintages. We had the opportunity to pour the 2019 for Antonio Galloni a few weeks ago, and he loved it so much, he chose that bottle to keep and enjoy with dinner. ![]()
Evangelho Vineyard is one of California’s greatest vineyard sites, home to own-rooted vines planted in the 1890s. A century of thoughtful, progressive farming has yielded vines that are healthy, resilient, and wise. Deep granitic sandy soils imbue the wines with distinctively suave and fine-grained tannins, while the vineyard’s proximity to the Carquinez Strait tempers the summer sun with an onrush of coastal winds that begin around noon each day. This daily wind stress alters the vines’ respiratory rates, producing ripe grapes with low pHs and fresh, vibrant flavors.
2018 Evangelho Vineyard Red Wine
“The 2018 Red Wine Evangelho Vineyard, a blend of 90% Carignan and 10% Mourvedre, is a very pretty, lifted wine. Bright floral notes, red Carignan fruit, blood orange and wild flowers give this silky, mid-weight Contra Costa red tons of class and personality. There is just a touch of reduction, so I would give this a few hours of air.” - Antonio Galloni, 92 points (Jan 2020)

2019 Evangelho Vineyard Red Wine
“The 2019 Red Wine Evangelho Vineyard is gorgeous. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, blood orange and exotic spice notes grace the palate. This Carignane/Mourvèdre-based field blend is beguiling and wonderfully complex right out of the gate. It’s a serious and very distinctive wine from Desire Lines.” - Antonio Galloni, 94 points (January 2026)
2020 Evangelho Vineyard Red Wine
“The 2020 Red Wine Evangelho Vineyard is gorgeous. Dark, fleshy and super-expressive, the Evangelho captures the natural richness of the year nicely. This Carignan/Mourvèdre blend is dialed up, and quite beautiful. Sweet black cherry, leather, cloves and menthol lead into the substantial finish.” - Antonio Galloni, 92 points (June 2022)

2021 Evangelho Vineyard Red Wine
“The 2021 Red Wine Evangelho Vineyard is all class. Bright, effusive and punchy, the 2021 impresses with its poise and overall character. Inky blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice are front and center. This exuberant Contra Costa Carignane/Mourvèdre hits all the right notes. I would give the 2021 a year or two in the cellar for the tannins to soften a bit.” - Antonio Galloni, 92 points (April 2023)

About the Winds of Change Vertical
The California coast is riddled with wind gaps - breaks in the coastal ranges through which cool marine air is sucked inland, propelled by pressure differentials between warmer inland California and the cold Pacific Ocean. The climate in these areas is defined by the daily onrush of cold winds that limit vine vigor and slow photosynthesis. The wind has a number of direct impacts on vine physiology and wine quality: canopies are smaller and canes are thicker; berries are smaller with less juice and thicker skins; and acidities tend to stay fresh because the vines are forced to slow or stop respiration by closing their stomata, in order to avoid excessive transpirational water loss via a consistently wind-disturbed leaf boundary layer.
The change in the vines - and the wines - is real, and the effect is transformative: the wines are both dense and energetic; plush and charming yet with a firm and fine-grained structure; lithe and perfumed, vibrant and rich.
Winds of Change is perhaps the most mission-driven wine that we make; made (and priced!) with the intention of turning wine lovers everywhere into ardent Syrah lovers.
2019 Winds of Change Red Wine

“The 2019 Red Wine Winds of Change is an attractive Syrah-based blend. Crushed flowers, spices, blood orange, mint and tobacco lend savory perfume to this mid-weight, nervy red. This cool climate red shows the brighter, more red-toned character of Syrah.” - Antonio Galloni, 92 points (July 2021)
11/8/2023 - RIESLINGFAN WROTE:
There is something about the Bedrock winemaking tree and the value that is available at the entry point. $23 and this is stunning. Savory, earthy, dark fruited, and just packed with flavor and extract, the Winds of Change is an entry level wine that drinks like a top-line cuvée. Bottled under the DIAM30 closure, that may seem aspirational (thanks for that thought David Ramey), but I think there is the necessary depth and structure to potentially test the closure. Well done Cody Rasmussen.
8/5/2022 - LUCAGIUPPONI LIKES THIS WINE:
Last bottle and sad to see it go. Amazing wine.
8/17/2021 - LEDOCQ LIKES THIS WINE:
What everyone else said. Back up the truck, insane value, too young, decant, drink in 5 years, drink now, all that. Went really well with burgers and maitakes.
3/14/2021 - ADNORTHUP LIKES THIS WINE:93 Points
Wow what an insane value. This has depth of flavor from the Syrah, but the carignan and Grenache give it such brightness, with loads of strawberry and cassis over the savory Syrah notes, with food acid in the finish. So delicious, will be a phenomenal summer red.
2020 Winds of Change Red Wine
14% alc.
“The 2020 Red Wine Winds of Change is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignane and Grenache. Exuberant and racy in the glass, the 2020 hits the palate with tons of fruit intensity and a good bit of tannin, too. The flavors are quite primary at this stage, so a bit of bottle age seems warranted, even if most 2020s are likely to drink best early. Time in the glass brings out a whole range of purple and black-fleshed fruits, which adds to an impression of virile intensity.” - Antonio Galloni, 91 points (April 2023)
12/20/2022 - WILLSCHENK LIKES THIS WINE:
Like the 2019, this is absurdly good. This is both more immediately delicious and ageworthy than much of what comes out of Napa at the $100 price point - at $20. Bay leaf-tinted, irony syrah fruit and ripe strawberries with dusty tannins and bright, well-integrated acidity
6/24/2022 - SACFRENCH LIKES THIS WINE:95 Points
This wine is an incredible value, I should have bought more than 3. Strawberry, raspberry and plum flavors with a nice dry finish. A young wine with great structure and age-able…if I hide them from myself. Wow.
5/4/2022 - Z_WILLUS_D WROTE:92 Points
Yes, this did have “serious depth of fruit.” There was a quality here akin to many of the old-vine Sandlands wines I’ve recently been enjoying. A very smooth buttery mouthfeel full of juicy, deep, layered fruits (blackberry pie, strawberry, blueberry, a cornucopia of blue and purple with a little red. A touch of tangy acidity, not much woodiness to muddle the purity expressed on the palate. I’m certain this will be very good for a while hence, but man is it not a pure joy to drink off the pop as is. Plenty fine on the 2nd day and equal or perhaps a touch more open relative the 1st. This wine certainly deserves all the complementary comments it’s receiving.
2021 Winds of Change Syrah
14% alc.
“The 2021 Syrah Winds of Change is fabulous. Silky and perfumed, this mid-weight Syrah is compelling right out of the glass. Scents of lavender, spice, mint and licorice open first, followed by a burst of blue/purplish Syrah fruit. Deceptive in its mid-weight feel, the 2021 is bursting with flavor and freshness. Drink it over the next decade or so.” - Antonio Galloni, 94+ points (April 2023)

7/12/2023 - MIKE DILDINE LIKES THIS WINE:92 Points
Really nice young Syrah, well balanced and approachable now. Fabulous value and delicious.
3/18/2023 - ROBOTICWINO LIKES THIS WINE:92 Points
PNP. Initially quite simple, but it opened up beautifully and grew in complexity after about two hours. Blackberry, black cherry, graphite, mint, eucalyptus. Very nice acid, with a watery mouthfeel. This is one of the best QPR wines I’ve ever encountered and it seems like it has a decade or more ahead of it.
