Last time I was in Denver I had great experiences at Tavernetta and Sunday Vinyl. They’re both Bobby Stuckey joints. Both are downtown right at the train station. I took the train from the airport and had lunch at Tavernetta, and on my way out had lunch at Sunday Vinyl. Clara at Sunday Vinyl is super friendly and provided great hospitality!

Dinner at Tavernetta is a great recommendation. The River North area (RINO) has blocks of artist murals you can easily walk, and a stop at Imprper City for drinks, and food trucks and coffee is a fun stop on their large patio. Drinks at Death & Co. are awesome and not far away. Recommendation can help here. Don’t have wine recommendations as we hit the cocktails or local beer places.

I hope you have a great trip! Let’s see … Velvet Cellar on Wynkoop … common for “best of” lists is dinner at Tavernetta or (less espensive) Sunday Vinyl.

I love the food at Barolo Grill in Cherry Creek but their massive wine markup (often over 5x retail, like a $32 wine marked up to $175) is just abusive.

The Kitchen and ChoLon are great options as well. Generally excellent food and service and have always been able to find some interesting and reasonably priced wines to try.

Food: Sap Sua, Wolf’s Tailor, Safta, Fish N Beer, Denver Biscuit, Uncle

Drink: Noble Riot, ESP HiFi, Yacht Club

Beer: Cerebral, Crooked Stave, Ratio, River North

In Denver for the weekend. Hit a few shops but found nothing special. Is there a spot known for Burgundy, Piiedmont and/or Champagne?

Any updates people can offer regarding restaurants in or near the Denver area (and things to do in Mid-November, I assume a drive up into the Rockies is generally not an issue at that time absent unseasonally early heavy snow or freezing rain)?

Are the places previously recommended all still up to snuff, are there new places we should look at, etc. still determining where I’m going to book us into a hotel just fwiw.

My wife will be there for a work event and I’m going to join her over the weekend.

Haven’t seen it mentioned, but if you’re a fan of sushi, you will find no better than Sushi Den. Far better than any I’ve had in LA or NY.

One not mentioned here yet but getting a lot of acclaim is Sap Sua
Also another bakery / cafe not mentioned above with limited hours is Get Rights

Most everything else stands as it was. Michelin started rating Denver/CO and their takes are decent. Price points are high though compared to NYC/LA/SF for what you get, in my opinion

Bruto was our most memorable meal. We also enjoyed Ocean Prime.

Any recommendations for Ocean Prime? My wife and I are going this Saturday and would love any input, if you have any.

Guard and Grace has consistently been good.

My family ranches in South Dakota and we raise some of the best beef in the world, our cattle have been served at the best steakhouses in the US and abroad.

Guard and Grace does it right if steakhouses are your thing.

Were you able to find any? Feel prices are so inflated here

As far as champagne and burg, no I buy/ship all mine in from out of state. For a while some shops would get allocations of grower champs and severely underprice it against the market (Cedric Bouchard etc) but not anymore. Most everyone is way over cost + shipping of some of the better online retailers.

Bump for new info.
HRH and I will be in Denver for 2 nights in early August (1 evening and 1 full day). We will not have a car. The Rockies will be on a road trip.
Resto recs are appreciated, but we are also looking for “must do” activities.

Recently spent a few days in Denver. Had a nice meal at Tavernetta and if you are there on a Thursday check out the Cooper Lounge inside Union Station where they feature 1/2 price champagne all night. Lots of great bottle options including Krug which works out to below retail. They had some good appetizers as well.

Dropping some thoughts, interested in hearing others’ as well:

Love

  • Beckon: a true michelin chefs counter experience. I haven’t been in some time, but have been assured it is still excellent. Likely the best Michelin experience in Colorado. Wine list is small but excellent.
  • Rougarou: New Orleans done right. The catfish, chicken skewers, and buttermilk pie live in my dreams. Simple but exciting wine list. Service is on point. Sister restaurant to the top 50 bar Yacht Club
  • Sap Sua: modern Vietnamese. The scrambled egg alone is worth stopping for. They can be a little inconsistent, but Im always excited to see what they’re doing. Wine is slim
  • Olivia: my favorite Italian in Denver (more on this later). The pasta is always excellent. The wine list is appropriate, though not extensive. The service is good, but seems to have dropped a bit when they expanded.
  • Alteno/Alma Fonda Fina: serious Mexican food. Not sure if Alma should have the star, its also not worth the hassle to get a seat in my opinion. It is very well priced. Alteno does everything Alma does just as well. Wine list at Alteno is solid. Mezcaleria Alma is apparently most worth a trip of all their concepts.
  • Hop Alley: best Chinese in Denver (more modern). Always a great experience. Very loud if you’re hard of hearing. Wine list is fine.

Great

  • MAKfam: Chinese, “tradition-inspired”. The food is very good. It’s a more-hip/young type of place. Wine list is slim.
  • Dan Da: Great Vietnamese at a great price. You have to brave Colfax, but it’s worth it. Don’t go for the wine.
  • Little Arthurs: Maybe the best premium cheesesteak I’ve had - when they’re on point. Variable quality, but never bad. In a brewery - no wine.
  • La Diabla Pozole y Mezcal: Don’t go for the wine. Maybe the ambience, depending on what you’re into. Great food, stupid prices.
  • Yuan Wonton: Wonderful spot, never leave disappointed. Open for lunch and happy hour… on some days. Check the schedule.
  • Onefold: Excellent breakfast all-around. Closed after lunch.
  • Cookery at Myrtle Hill: Best chicken and waffles in Denver. I’ve never been there past lunch.

Maybe Controversial

Frasca/Tavernetta: I dont think the food is great. Its just good. Service is great. Wine list is great, and expensive.

Barolo Grill: Pastas are solid, skip the mains. Also great service and an excellent wine list that’s expensive.
