Decanter cleaning: what is this?

I put water and a little soap in a decanter to clean it. I noticed a floater – I assume some kind of wine residue. Anyone see anything this bizarre when cleaning a decanter?

This can’t be unseen now…

Glue from when you tried to fix the spider web crack in it?

I think it may be time to move on and buy a new one

LOL

What are you doing with Mark Boldizar’s decanter?

thought it was cracked too, but it appears to be some kind of floral or grape vine design cut into the glass…

I was going to say it looks a bit like the Ebola virus… [wow.gif]

There aren’t any cracks – it’s a fancy design in the glass. The thing looked so strange. I’ve read about tannins growing in length which, I guess, is why you taste them less as wine ages. Was wondering if this had something to do with that.

I’m guessing it’s some combination of sediment and mold.

Crack or not…chuck it and get a new one Tim! Yikes.

Is that a Bonesing decanter?

Are we looking at tartaric acid crystals?

Are we looking at tartaric acid crystals?

It might not be apparent from the picture but the “mass” is floating around in the water – it isn’t stuck to the side or anything like that.

Ewww (dry heaving)

Looks like a blood clot that’s broken loose; better have your doctor start your decanter on Coumadin before it develops a dangerous pulmonary embolism.

I love this. In the OP:

I assume some kind of wine residue.

And we will have dozens of informed/clueless/witty responses.

I love this.

“What do y’all think this booger floating in my decanter could be?”

I love this.

Mark’s decanters are actually in much better shape!
