De Negoce offer (Part 2)

I was born curious. No surprise?
Is anyone here buying this Burgundy?
Eleveur
2020 Vosne-Romanee Le Village Rouge
I will pass. I have plenty (too many?) of those nice dN CA PN’s.
RRV, SRH, etc…

That’s what I figured, somehow seemed a bit circular thought. The best fruit goes to Somerston and then what doesn’t quite fit the bill for them goes to dN? Wouldn’t that put it back closer to the Priest ranch? I bought a case because it’s something different and I felt like I needed another inexpensive white.

Jonah,
Likely scenario is this would be “Fire Sale” BEFORE your top end label (somerston) prints. Harder to fire sale that lower end juice to dN as they’d have to sell it below their target price point for their lineups. That Priest Ranch ($19) spare juice (is any) would end up with a private label at Aldi / TJ.

Cheers, Tim

Anyone have any notes on #451 or #488 Chards? I already bought a case of the #503 Chard and really enjoyed it for $16/bottle…

I was not a fan of either 451 or 488. I prefer whites in the 13.5% or below alcohol range. But my husband liked them both and they are all gone, so I’ll never know what they might have developed into. However, I love 503 and I have enjoyed 477.

It could be a 100% Cab component of this wine, which we know Courtney Benham owns, $68 on their website that was pulled from cooperage early (but can’t tell if vineyard is estate):

I’m in Chicago for a bit, so thought hey, Patrick, I’ll take you up on that, then realized it’ll be too late by the time you get it. But I live in SF East Bay, so I pulled the trigger anyway.
I’d heard dN had some order fulfillment issues in the past, we’ll see on this futures deal, but I also got a case from the bottle shop: 20% off under $20; a few nice-looking '23 CA chards (503, 477, 451 - thanks to MDMiller and PHuff above) plus PNs, GruV, SB, Vig. Ordered Monday, got it today. Will report back on the Grenache B 526 when I get it.

Lot 528 Paso Robles Cabernet:
Note states “estate grown single vineyard” > 1500 feet in Santa Lucia range. Daou and Adelaida all have Cabernet vineyards that fit. Adelaida has a Viking Vineyard that’s listed near 1500 feet and sells for $75 for 2021 vintage. Might lean towards this vs Daou (whose wines are a bit pricier).

Here is another possible guess for lot 528:

Weird you posted this. I have a google alert for Mr. Hughes going back years (almost never shows anything) but this popped up today (can read by opening in a browser and holding escape, sometimes works, worked for me). Nothing that remarkable in article and NOTHING about dN, just says Wine Industry is f’d and big bargains coming.

John,
The J. Lohr Signature is same vineyard and $100 price tag.

Anyways, looks to be a modest Cabernet bargain here. For me, pass as I’m sitting on a ton of earlier dN Cab vintages.

Happy Friday. Cheers, Tim

….I remain on the fence on #528. Perhaps if I get the right buzz tonight, I’ll bite. Regarding #528, do any of you have an opinion regarding how this will age? I was a bit perplexed by the release write up, as it claims Rutherford on the bottle, then waxes about Santa Lucia, which is from my limited knowledge prime Pinot and Chardonnay plantings.

Last month I bit on 525 and 523. For now, I’m considering about how many cases I’ll likely purchase this year. My current over/under is 17 because I’m considering that there will be deals I can’t pass up.

Harry,
There’s some mention of “diurnal swings” similar to Rutherford and Alexander Valley in write up. This is clearly a high elevation Paso Cabernet. I’m not a fan of Paso wines myself as they tend to be a bit “big, boozy”, but site specific wines on West side (where this is from) can be competitive with some Napa / Sonoma Cabs.

I am passing on 528 as the best reds that come from Paso are Rhone wines such as GSM’s, Grenache, Petite Sirah or Syrah. Other than Daou, Paso is a lot less known for good Cab. I’d rather spend more money on a Napa/Sonoma Cab.

I personally have my sights set on as I usually do on future lot 529 Napa Prop Red (or Red blend, I forgot what the COLA label said).

Interesting - there are many that might disagree with you based on the popularity of cabs coming out of the area . . .

Red Blend & double ditto.
Paso CS is just fine. However, I’d rather spend my time & money on the NorCal Cabs, too!
I basically live in the Paso Robles Appellation. Go figure?
I Don’t really care much for the Rhône varietals. Luckily, Other good people enjoy them. period……
