I will likely not be spitting much! Agree it is quite a lot of wine - maybe we find a way for those bringing significant others etc. to not bring extra wine but contribute more for the food/snacks? Once we have a better sense of the numbers we can figure out what makes the most sense.
My experience in a large tasting group is that the wine goes a lot faster than you think, and extra can always be brought back home. I think the point is to meet some like-minded folks and taste through a big selection of wines, even giving an opportunity to taste through some lots that some of us previously havenāt tasted before. No one will be forced to drink everything, and at these tastings some folks bring their own spittoon if they like, some sample very small amounts, some larger amounts, but it all evens out, IMHO. ![]()
I would imagine some of us might even bring more than one bottle to share, and like I said, extra can always be corked and brought back home or given away to someone who really loved it - or to the host @L_Harris for handling all of the work on this! ![]()
Great points. But I will gratefully decline taking any excess! I just had to buy a new wine rack for all the stuff thatās coming I donāt have space for - the last thing I need is even more wine ![]()
I also have a couple spittoons that I will bring for those who prefer.
Thanks guys for the great responses, and I love that āmore is merrierā mindset. I have been, in a more or less organized fashion, reviewing the āWhat de Negoce wine are you drinking tonightā thread. I was specifically looking for comments on the wines I hold. Perhaps, though, I should start over, looking for those wines that have been so gloriously described that I feel a pain similar to lost love. I might just get lucky!
.Thanks everyone; location works for me living in Maryland and it will be great to meet others, who like me, have bought way too much wine from CH. I have plenty of DN options to bring, but would greatly appreciate some direction when we get to the wine list stage. Happy to help with logistics as well. Thanks to Luke for the initiative and for finding a spot so this can happen

Still interested in a DMV meetup? If you can, will you fill out the survey below so we can nail down the best date/time?
Results are in!
In total 8 people filled out the survey, responding for 16 attendees. Seems like everyone can make November 19th at 3pm work! So mark it down in your calendars! We will have the space until 6pm, so folks are welcome to go out to dinner nearby afterwards - I can offer some recommendations!
It seems like almost all preferred that I arrange for food rather than have folks bring their own, so Iām estimating about $20 total per attendee to cover the venue and food costs.
Weāll have everyone bring 1 bottle of de Negoce wine (one per attendee) - might mean we have some left over to take home, but better that side than the other!
The space we have will accommodate at least 30 people, so there is still room for others to join if they are able. I will send out an evite or something similar at the start of November to get a firm headcount. Weāll use that to gauge how much food we need, and I can provide more details about where weāre going to meet up. About that time we can also work to finalize who is bringing which wines. In the meantime feel free to use this thread to post either offers of wines you might like to bring, or requests for wines youād like to try!
Awesome, thanks for doing this. Sounds great. Looking forward to it.
Thanks Luke, for making this work. And the estimated costs are completely affordable. Now my thoughts are turning to: drinking well now vs I hope this will open up with a 24 hour decant.
I think I will most likely decant whatever I bring for an hour or two in the morning, then back in the bottle.
Same, happy to do Camās 24 hour decant deal for this event. I do want to make sure whatever I bring will not be totally closed off even with a decant, so 216 is off the table
but open to trying most others. I bought quite a lot of N.50 CS, but havenāt tried it, so thatās definitely one option for me that sounds like it could use a big decant prior to the tasting. N.82 likewise.
Also FWIW - the venue will be providing stemless wine glasses - decent sized bowls, which I think will be perfectly good for me, but if anyone is particular about their glassware, feel free to bring your own!
I bought a few n.50 as well, would be great to try that lot.
Sorry, canāt make this event. Iāll look forward to the TNs.
I also have the 82, which I have not tried. I have read here that It should wait⦠wait⦠wait. Perhaps we could manage it with a looong decant?
I can bring any of the following: 48, 90, 91, 92, 109, 147, 151, 309
48 and 151 are probably the best of the bunch. The 90-92 Walla Walla wines are supposed to be good too but may need more time. I opened a N.109 Syrah last night and it was quite good. 147 arrived last week and is a red blend from Walla Walla (69% Charbono, 31% Nebbiolo) which might be interesting to folks. Finally 309 is the Alto Maipo Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. I have only tried the 48 and 109 from these lots so far.
Iāve been dying to try n.48 as Iāve heard great things about it. No pressure to bring along, but Iād certainly enjoy it! I have had n.90 (merlot). I thought it was a little too soon to drink, but it was a nice wine. Although, it seems more ready than the California 2018ās, in my opinion.
I can bring a n.48 for sure. I may bring an additional bottle of a different lot just for fun.
One of my favorites and just ordered 6 more! Could also bring one or can bring any number of others.
Wouldnāt mind trying one of the Chileans - didnāt order any of those because cellar justā¦tooā¦fullā¦!!
