Damoy Chambertin Beze 1996

A great showing for this wine that was drinking beautifully and seemed only a few years from maturity. Great fruit, a little funk and some powerful earthy components. Acid ok. Long finish.

Only other notable characteristic was the huge amount of sediment. Pulled and poured; next time will stand upright and decant.

93 was their turning point. Super domaine now though prices are rising. Thanks for the note.

First Grand Cru Burg I ever purchased.

Opened another bottle; this time decanting it 3 hours in advance after standing upright. good as the first bottle was, this was so much better. The funkiness of the original had become less weird and incredibly complex, adding licorice, and kirsch and leaf meal. I loved the wine as it is, but I suspect it will be even better in a few years. Archetypal Beze, and if you can find it, it will be a bargain.
