Does anyone have any experience/notes on their flagship bottle or their secondary “TEN” bottle? Saw them mentioned on another board and it piqued my curiousity…
bumping to see if anyone has an update.
Cellat Tracker has a smattering of tasting notes from users for what it’s worth.
Very good cab but on the ripe and modern side. The 2011 was 14.9%, and Coombsville can be very hot my one bottle was a gift so can’t tell you about QPR (free wine = no denominator).
If Coombsville is very hot I’d hate to be anywhere else in the valley at that time.
Their website is up to date and has some good info. Looks like the Napa comes from 4 different vineyards and the 10 from 2. They make a svd from Moulds.
I’m going to try the wines in November and will post back.
I tasted the Dakota Shy offerings, including Moulds and Social Currency (magnum). Made by Tom Garrett of Detert. Should have notes published in about a month.
Had a chance to taste the 2013 last night at a dinner with a bunch of Cabs. Was really impressed. Held its own on the table with Schrader and Scarecrow. Everyone agreed it was really solid.
Daniel- which wine from their lineup was it ?
It was the regular 13 cab.
Daniel and Doug, Thank you for commenting on Dakota Shy. I am the winemaker and partner with Todd Newman on Dakota Shy. Happy to answer any questions about the wines. Todd and I worked together for many years at Revana Family Vineyard before launching Dakota Shy. I also am the winemaker/owner of Detert Family Vineyards in Oakville.
Dakota Shy has four Cabernet based wines. We currently source from 8 different vineyards in Napa Valley (Mount Veeder, Howell Mtn, Pritchard Hill, Oakville, St. Helena, Calistoga, Oak Knoll, Rutherford). The diversity of vineyards is one of the big thrills for me. My family is blessed with an incredible vineyard in Oakville - the wines for Detert are single vineyard from the family property. Getting out and working with other incredible vineyards, sites and people is amazing. I feel very lucky to have both experiences.
The current line-up:
2013 Dakota Shy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($85) - blend of valley floor and Hillside sources.
2013 Dakota Shy Napa Valley CAbernet Sauvignon “TEN” ($85) - primarily valley floor sources.
2013 Dakota Shy Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon “Moulds Family Vineyard” ($125) - from Steve and Betsy Moulds’ exceptional vineyard in Oak Knoll.
2013 Dakota Shy Napa Valley “Social Currency” 1.5L ($425) - This is a magnum only bottling that is a blend of our top sites.
With the 2014 vintage, we also added a single vineyard Sauvblanc from Rutherford. 30% stainless steel ferment, 70% neutral french oak.
Our goal is to keep expanding our sources of outstanding vineyard sites. Striving to make wines that can stand with the best in Napa.
Thank you for the interest.
Tom- welcome to the board and thanks for posting. I’m meeting up with Todd in November and look forward to trying.
Fred, Thank you - great to hear you’ll be seeing Todd.
